Anyone out there knows any good info on BBC crane Solid roller cams? I got this Old Crane camshaft & I'm trying to figure out if it's worth using or not for heavy 3300 pound 1/8th mile 4 link bracket car with a 33x15x15 tire, 5.14 gear & glide & 5800 spragless converter. (TR-262/4167-2-10) 262/272 300/310 708/708 110 Motor is a 12-1 496 with older brodix BB-2 heads 118cc with some a little clean up port work done along with a Victor jr intake & 950 alky carb.

Popular cam should work well. TR series seemed to be easy on valvesprings

I'm thinking it should work real well with your combo. Would be even better with a Victor manifold and a 1050 Alky Dominator. Dan "Jim" Moore Much too young to feel this damn old!!

I'm wondering why some people feel like I should buy a duel pattern cam over this single pattern cam that I already have

What are the specs for your single pattern cam? The Crane you showed specs for above is a dual pattern cam. Sometimes, but not always adding a few degrees of exhaust duration helps carry power better after peak HP. Stan

Another cam company told me that the camshaft that I already have is a single pattern cam & it wouldn't work for my combo very well. Said I needed a duel pattern camshaft ground. Camshaft that I have is. 262 272, 300 310, 708 708,110

I don't know how anyone could call that cam a single pattern cam. What you will see is that different cam companies will vary in how much split they like between intake and exhaust on their dual pattern cams (this can even vary between engine types). Did he happen to say what specs / cam he believed you needed? Stan

U have it already its only intake gaskets and timing cover set to try it, but seems small for a BBC? if it works u just saved 400 bucks

I’m far from a cam guru, but that seems like too small a change to justify spending any money on. Tony Leonard

That cam is 6 degrees larger @ 0.050" on the intake verses the Crane. That said it is hard to compare the cams without knowing what each uses for lash. Stan
