I am going to be installing a new dual caliper Lamb brake set up on my dragster. I currently have been using Wilwood 7/8" bore master cylinders. Is there a better master or should these be good? | ||

I'm using the same and zero issues. Just replaced it with a new one since it was the original one installed in my car when it was built in 2001....was just starting to leak so replacement was needed for that. Not to hijack this thread, but I finishing up a new dragster and I have dual calipers on the rear and I'm thinking of using two master cylinders, one for each pair of callipers.....Overkill, why not or ? . Dave F J B | |||

I think that is the way to go. On my old altered I had a foot brake and master cylinder that controlled all four wheels. I also had a separate master cylinder and hand brake for another set of calipers on rear for emergency and it worked well. I have known several people who lost brakes for one reason or another and lost their car. Thank you for your responses.My car has dual calipers but I am changing from Strange to Lamb. I do use 2 masters. I feel it is safer to have a second system. If you tie all the brakes together you have a single point of failure. I can rum 193mph and one set of calipers is plenty to stop safely. The reason I am switching the brakes out is I can’t get more than 40-50 runs out of a set of pads. | |||

As Dennis said it depends on the pedal ratio. When I first got my undercover it was going through pads pretty quickly, and heat cracking rotors. Lamb iron rotors and their pads. Lots of brake dust too. The car only has a 4:1 pedal ratio. It had a 1” bore MC. I went down to a 3/4” and it helped a lot. But when I switched to the Ferodo pads it totally fixed it. My rotors now have probably 800 runs on them and pad life is really good, 120+ runs, stopping from 178. Theory is the old pads were too hard and combined with the too large MC which makes lower pressure it wasn’t grabbing the rotor and stopping it, it was just making heat. My wife’s miller has a 7:1 pedal ratio, I forget either a 3/4” or 7/8” bore, we’ve been 194 with it so far and it stops great. The pedal ratio really make a difference in how the pedal feels. That has MW brakes, Ferodo pads. | |||
