Gentleman,

I have a 9inch aluminum center section in my car and I get a weeping leak (drips a little if it sits for weeks). Comes right out around the nut and yoke.

Last off season I took the yoke off and put some RTV on it (used to work on 12bolts I ran when they acted like this). Thinking it was weeping up the splines. That seemed to take care of it most of the season but it is now back.

Any ideas? Don't want to tear apart more than I need to if is just what I describe above and RTV on the spines is all it needs. Likewise I would like to fix it right. Never played with these 9inch center sections much.

Thanks.

That's annoying.
Yes, clean and RTV the splines, add RTV under the washer, and hope for teh best.

Might want to consider this. I've heard others having trouble with gear oil leaks. Seem regular RTV is susceptible to gear oil chemistry degradation over time.

Something to check, there is a pinion nut with a rubberized sealer bonded to its surface. You will find them in gear setup kits, and you can find them "carded" in the "Help" products at your local store. If you have a connection with a shop that does rear-end work, they will mostly have some spares.

Vent and how much fluid do you run? Nut with sealer on it and RTV on the splines and washer.

Thanks everyone for the confirmation. I checked the vent prior when it did it. Everything was ok.
As for level until its full. LOL. Think there was 2.5qts but my housing is really short like dragster almost.

I always use the right stuff. I guess I will pull it off, clean it up all good, and lather it up with the right stuff again. Its much better than last year it leaked a few drops a day. This time it is more like one drop every week. Just enough to notice and annoy me.

Thanks again.
