Chrome moly tubing for dragster dolly
Where are you guys getting your chrome moly tubing from? I did a search, there is a place in Illinois, Wicks Aircraft and there is Stock Car Steel. Anyone used these guys. Thinking about building my own dragster dolly. Probably a mistake but I hardly ever use my welder so I thought I might give it a shot. Any advice?

I started to build one but by the time figured in fuel to go get the pipe time to cut and weld it and the cost of the pipe it just wasn't worth it to me and I bought one, worked great too, The angle of the handle has a lot to do with how hard it is to pull it down. The guy I bought it from changed the angle a little for me so it was easier to pull down. Dragster Dolly I think is who I bought it from.

I buy most of mine from Shapiro now days since I quit doing chassis work. Small quantities and length. They UPS up to 8 ft.

Maybe I am not grasping the problem.
This is a dolly to drag the car around behind a golf car, yes?
IF so why are you concerned about it being made of 4130?
Mild steel is fine.
Shoot, even thick wall aluminum would work.

FWIW I made mine out of some extra material left unguarded on the "smaller pieces" shelf.
Some square tube, some round tube, some flat bar and a couple of tubed tires off an old lawn mower, etc.

To lift the front of the car (full-size dragster) for loading purposes...

Ok,we are on the same page.
I made mine dual purpose, for loading and dragging it around.

FWIW, the last time I checked...there are NO SFI dragster dolly Certs whether it is full size, under size or over size.
There are also no trophies given for the lightest, coolest looking dolly. Big Grin

I know this particular dolly is ugly but the design is very sound. I have posted it before but thought I would put it up again for you to consider copying.

Here's the story. I had a great pit spot in Denver. Best I have ever had actually. Anyway, the problem was that it wasn't quite level and I had to use my extra boards under the trailer tires (forgot my plastic leveling blocks) which left me with almost nothing to help unload the car.

I got the dragster high centered and a neighbor came over with a Dolly, the kind for lifting and moving the front end of a dragster. Wow, it just worked great. Anyway, I thought what the hell, I'll build one. It will give me something to do this winter. The nicest ones I looked at on the internet used go-kart wheels and tires so I thought I might try and duplicate it.

That's the story. I know I could just use square tubing and so forth but I figured I might make it look nice while I'm at it.

Here is the one I was looking at.

Hell, for the price they are offering I'd just buy one and be done with it!

The nice thing about one like I posted is that there is no strain on you because it has four wheels. We used to back a dragster in with it. One person can do it if you winch it in without having to hold down or lift up on the handle. Just steer it.

Now the tank one would be the ultimate. LOL
