I am not sure where "out here" is, but I see a sticker on Texas diesel pumps that say the diesel may be 5% biodiesel. I see little option but to use it. My old Duramax seems to do fine on whatever it is.

https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/renewable-diesel I had to do the google, had never heard of it called renewable diesel. Can't say I've seen it sold around me. Used to have a station that sold bio-diesel, don't think they still sell it.

Also this. https://blog.ucsusa.org/jeremy...nd-renewable-diesel/ Being in the Truck road service business for over 40 years. I have seen most of everything. Case in point. One main supplier retailer was selling #2 that the contents were too high in animal fat. In real cold weather with this one instance, trucks were breaking down. Could not find fuel filters for miles. That one week i moved over 250 fuel filters. Rule # 1. Never assume the fuel is treated no matter what is posted. CYA

In the Parts section at my Chevy dealer there was a rack full of stuff, mostly trade publications, catalogs, notices, bulletins, etc. There was one, (not sure if it was an informational flyer, or a bulletin), that stated a recommendation against using Diesel fuel that contained more than 5% Biodiesel content, unless unavoidable. I did not keep a copy, I don't recall any specific info on potential issues that could be caused by it. I avoid anything over 5%, and have only seen 1 station that actually had a higher bio content, (it was a Love's truck stop on I-35 in Oklahoma, south of OKC). I pretty much stick with the well-known national or regional sources, (Exxon, Valero, RaceTrac, etc). And I replace my fuel filter at least once a year, even if it is showing 70% remaining life. Bio is a super detergent. It cleans too good if you haven’t ran it before. When this stuff first hit the state Corp yards it wreaked havoc plugging filters on all the rigs. Caused us a ton of money and time. The main reason is to extend diesel supplies I think. Can’t hardly get anything else here! There are additives but who knows without real science data what it is. I do my own thing. Mines an 03 duramax and I protect it. California Screaming! Raceless in California!

Yeah I don't know if it would have any effect on my old (1995) Cummins but it's getting to be the only choice here in Southern Calif.....one bonus is it's around 25-50 cents cheaper....A side note...I used to put my old oil from the oil change in my fuel tank then fill it up the rest of the way to mix it well....truck never said a word about it lol...Now that the old girl has a half a million miles on her I only use straight diesel and a can of additive for fuel....I love my truck, I beat on it and pumped up the boost for years and she has never let me down...If it grenaded tomorrow I'd put a new engine in and get it painted up to look new and drive it another 25yrs lol .
