It's a first gen camaro, they're around 3,200 lbs. 700hp + 3200lbs will run in the 9's.

Based on this, ETs aren't the criteria

If Bob wants a 700HP sbc race engine that's EASY!

6.20s at 3000 lbs.

Swap pistons for 11:1 compression and I'll bet it makes no less than 675Hp.

Right now it's been 7 teens in the 1/8. 72 nova, 3450 with me in it. 400 with flat tappet cam, dual plane manifold, 6000 shift, full exhaust, 4.11 rear gear. A true driver. I have the engine out for maintenance and figured I'd increase the power some. It's kind of snowballing here. Maybe I should work with what I have, and try to just improve it some. It really isn't a racecar. I have those, but I still want it to open your eyes when you get after it.

Every engine is a street engine, even a sb with a 1" cam. Just depends on 1. how serious you are about power 2. servicing the power and 3. Experience.

We could drive this on the street, might have to put valve springs on it every other time out.

BIG SPEED knows and he is good at getting horsepower.

I think it I will be hard for a pump gas 406 motor to make 700 HP with out making too many sacrifices for drive-ability and durability. Like I said more cubic inches and better heads.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Sounds good. This is a pretty good indicator how complicated it'll be to get to 700 hp 406 low compression. Heads ported and angle milled I'd imagine 427 cid.

I've built a number of small blocks that were near or above 700 hp, but all were race engines. Perhaps my goals are unrealistic to have a smooth running street engine. Maybe I'll make some small changes and try to get it up to 600-620 hp. Seems a better goal.
