I have 220,000 miles on my 2006 DuraMax. It is without question the best truck I have owned. Smooth, quiet, plenty of towing power. While racking up these miles, the best performance improvement I have discovered is to move the driver's seat just slightly ahead of where you usually have it positioned.

Doing so allows depressing the accelerator pedal more easily, the truck will definitely respond to more pedal depression.

Abbot, I think I am in withdrawal! Jeff and I have been without rides for over a year, whew.

We are working on it though and will be back out next season.

By tha way, if Y'all have not been to Xtreme Raceway, make a point to go, it is our dream track, fantastic in every way.

Also, racers, moving the driver's seat slightly more rearward than you usual driving position will improve Duramax fuel mileage.

NOTE: this tip only applies to the driving style of your tow truck.

For racing, it is important to have the seat in a comfortable location and hold the gas pedal all the way down. Then, release the pedal at the correct time.

I don't have a duramax, but I moved the seat forward on my gas powered Silverado....then got a warning for speeding. I'm moving my seat back, to save money. LOL


I used to be a people person, but people ruined that.

Man, I was trying to figure out why my truck's fuel economy had dropped, just about the same time it seemed to start pulling a bit stronger...
This thread reminded me that I recently let the wife drive it once, and she had moved the seat forward just a bit from my setting...
So I hit that "Seat Memory - Driver 1" button Saturday morning, and now it is back to getting better MPG. Cool

Jim, I discovered the performance gain in a similar fashion. At the shop sometimes one of the Guys will run an errand in my truck and they invariably will move the seat [and change the radio station]

I used to give back the finish line by .001-.002. Moving the seat back one notch worked because it moved the entire car up one notch on the track. Now I'm always .002 or more at the stripe.

watch the adjustable peddles! in my 16 the adjustment will go down enough that it interferes with full throttle. I thought the truck was down on power and checked things...moved the peddles out a little and HOLY COW! Stupid they allow it to occure - but on mine it definately will cause non- full throttle and no I dont have carpets or anything causing it.

1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH
1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH



3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire.

Matt, just WOW. I never considered that the entire car would move forward, that is a great tip.

Your comment is an excellent example of this not always being as they seem. I thought the seat moved rearward, never dream the car moved forward.

This also works on my Dodge, But on the freeway seat all the way back works in reverse , low speed but great mileage....LOL
