This thing is awesome. And expensive

I would really like to get one of those for the motorhome basement. We live far in the country, and ice means stopping at a gas station with the trailer and all, which can be a pain depending. Those are sweet.

There are cheaper brands of them

I have the Igloo Sportsman 55 quart from Sams Club and I think it was about 190 bucks or so. I did the light test on it and no gaps in my insulation. So far so good but it does help to pre-chill it and I also use the frozen water bottles to help out the ice.

Bought the Lifetime 77qt today in Walmart for $153. Seems like a very nice cooler for the price, only thing that would make it better would be a basket like the Rtic offers but for the cost savings I will be okay without it.

Thanks for the tip!!

I switched to the Dometic unit like Seabass suggests about 7 years ago and it is the only way to go. It stays plugged in from March til Thanksgiving. No more ice(or bothering someone to go get you some), no more having to drain the water or get your floating pack of hotdogs out of the water.
Worst thing I had to do was defrost it to get a burst beer out of it. (I like them as cold as possible) 33-34* is great in the sun, soon as the sun goes down it’s 29 and that will bust a Coors Light wide open.

It runs on 120V most of the time and on 12V to and from the track. The only downside is the cost, but you will wonder what took you so long to get one!

Pro-tip: For those of you buying a good cooler, be sure to buy a bicycle-type lock for it or it could grow legs and disappear from your campsite in the middle of the night with your cold beer if you leave it out. Ask me how I know... I guess now I get to give the one Curtis posted a try after all!

I like the construction of it but ice didnt seem to last any longer that a colman. Says 9 say ice retention but mine was mostly melted in 2 days. I think they mean block ice, ready ice isn't the greatest with small cubes.

Did you precool it or just add ice the day you started? That is how all of this type cooler gets the really long retention times. I have never had mine not hold most of the ice to at least 4 days though and I rarely precool. I know it's hot down there but not a lot worse than here.

They had been in the fridge for a few hours but not fully cool. Cooler was inside the trailer. I think the type of ice has a lot to do with it. Readi ice is pretty small cubes. Still a very nice ice chest for the money. Going to be a while before I can try it again with my crankshaft becoming a 2 piece crank

So I gave this one a try... IMO not worth the money. Yes it’s less than a Yeti or Rtic but it doesn’t work any better than a cheap Coleman or Igloo. The lid doesn’t close tight unless it’s latched and the latches are clumsy.

I'm bummed my 40yo Coleman cooler just broke the plastic hinges and it's going to cost $5 to replace them.
I have 2 ice packs that came with Blue Apron meals that I keep in the freezer and a dishpan I fill with water and make a block of ice. At the most I might buy a bag of ice to add to it for a long weekend. Ice must be rare or expensive in some places.

I picked up a Lifetime products seconds cooler for 55.00. It is a copy of the Yeti and well worth the money. Couldn't be happier.

Just the opposite experience for me. My lid closes pretty good on the seal even without latching and the latches to me are really easy to use. I feel it was well built and would last is why I went with it.

Now does it keep ice longer than a cheap Coleman. I don't know for certain, I didn't do a side by side comparison. I for one was tired of the latch breaking on the cheaper coolers. But hey, the great thing about all this is we can all choose to use whatever we want.

Curtis

On my Rtic and cheap Coleman, the lid would close all the way and pretty much seal without latching it and I would only really latch it while driving. This one stays open a 1/2" when its not latched - its a pain to have to re-latch 2 latches every time you go in it, especially with a beer or 3 in your hands and you can forget about my girlfriends kids EVER latching it when they go in there! I figured this would be a nice compromise between a $40 cooler and a $300 one but to be honest the $40 is just as good.

Gotcha. That does suck. Mine closes no different than if it is latched. I like buying American made but in this case their quality control bit you. Sorry man.

Oh and the wife won't let me have a girlfriend so her kids don't come into play. LOL

I never had much trouble with cheap coolers keeping ice for 2-3 days until..... I bought a truck that has a black plastic bed liner. Now can't keep ice 24 hrs in the summer.

Would it help much to set the cooler on top of a piece of styrene or styrofoam insulation board, on that truck bed? Much of your heat gain may be through conduction.

For work I use a small cooler with refreezable packs; extra insulation inside the cooler on the bottom seems to help me at least some.

Overall I am happy with the purchase of the Lifetime cooler, construction is very good, top shuts tight even without latching. 9 Day ice retention is a lie but I bet a Yeti isn't any better. I opened mine up recently after 6 days sitting in my trailer since filling it for a race and ice was melted but melted water was still very cold. Like I said in a earlier post, I think quality of ice used makes a difference
