Ice Chests
Are high end ice chests like Yeti and RTIC worth the money?
I have always just bought Coleman coolers but they seem to be getting cheaply made and fall apart quickly

RTIC has a pretty good sale going right now that includes free shipping and was thinking about getting one

Buccees has nICE brand. Same as YETI, etc for about half the money.
Went 5 days sitting outside last week at the Motorplex.
Big one....120 quart was $249

I like the big white ones off of amazon.. The IGLOO Polar Cooler, 120-QT for around $75...

There's also a new one called the (Quick and Cool) for around $50, looks like it's around 100 QT

Steve, I have this one and it is every bit as good as the RTIC, Yeti, etc.. Our company is a distributor for Pelican products and I bought this one instead of getting a Pelican.

Don’t know why I didn’t notice that I put penguin instead of Pelican

I just bought an RTIC. Yes, it definitely keeps ice for longer than a regular cooler but it weighs a ton and even though its about the same size outside as my old cooler it has much less space inside. I don't remember what the actual liter size I bought but I wanted one that was about the same as my old Coleman and was disappointed to see how much less this one holds but its so heavy I think if I went for the next size up I would blow out my back trying to put it in the motorhome compartment full of beer & ice. IMHO I think I would give the one Curtis posted a try.

I have the yeti and yes the RTIC is the brand bucees now sells when they once sold Yeti only.

I agree they are really heavy and smaller on the inside...but they keep ice very well and for lots longer than any other coolers.

WHOMPER is right...if you precool the unit before loading it, it will seem like someone is inside the cooler making ice for me while its closed. Razz

I have a grizzly cooler and it's the best I've ever owned. Cheaper than yeti and higher rating last time I checked.

The convenience factor is what is so nice. Simply not having to worry about ice while racing for a week is what I like. You have to decide how much that is worth to you. I personally like the pelican coolers

I am not going to ever pay $250 or $300 dollars or more for a cooler not going to happen.

The one I posted is $97. Tested better than a Yeti

That one looks decent. On the others there is no way I would pay for a Yeti or anything like that.

I found out that keeping my Coleman in the shade goes a long ways in keeping ice in it. I also keep bottles of water in freezer and swap a few out as the weekend goes into cooler.

I own an RTIC and love it, two actually a small one from cruising the pits and the big one for the trailer. Yes they are heavy, mine is 37lbs empty but it will keep ice for almost a week in the desert heat. Bought mine when they first started for $159, from what I understand they are a group of guys who left Yeti to form their own venture

I forgot to add that it is made in America also.

We always freeze about 6 water bottles and put in the bottom before adding ice and everything. Stays cold a lot longer this way.

I would really like to get one of those for the motorhome basement. We live far in the country, and ice means stopping at a gas station with the trailer and all, which can be a pain depending. Those are sweet.
