Beadlock Conversions
I am thinking about having my wheels Beadlocked. Couple of questions.

1. Who do you recommend?
2. Did they stiffen sidewalls up much?
3. I know they add some weight but have the slowed anyone down?
4. How much weight do they add?

One of main reasons I am thinking of doing this is because I think on my car it needs stiffer sidewalls. I put tubes in and it helped but did not resolve issue but it did confirm it was right direction. So I think next logical step would be beadlocks.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I went from regular wheels to beadlocks. Same tire just on double beadlocks. The car felt more stable on the top end, but feel wise that was the only thing I noticed. They do tend to force the sidewalls to work more, as the bead can't move at all, but I think that actually helps the tire work better. Weight will depend on the wheel. I bought the Mickey Thompson Pro 5, and they were the lightest on the market at the time. They will add weight to the wheel, IIRC mine were about 8 lbs heavier than non beadlocked. There is an issue now though....If you have wheels that were originally certified and were non beadlock before, they CANNOT be recertified. I've been told that Jerry Bickel is doing the recerts on Weld wheels now and will not recert them if they have been modified in any way from oem. Mac Fab, OMF, Champion Wheel, Neil and Parks, Keizer Wheels, and Weld (they used to do ONLY their wheels, have to call them to see if they still will, I've been told no) all do them. I may be wrong on the SFI cert deal, but I'm just going off what I was told by a couple of racer friends of mine that are dealing with it now.

If your wheels are SFI 15.1, cert is lifetime
15.3 - Every two years
15.4 - Ever year (top fuel wheels)

Mine are done to 15.3 and I just got them redone by Mickey at Orlando this weekend. Cost me $100 plus round trip fuel. Way cheaper than sending them in. I know Bickel wants $250 plus the ride........

I used N&P this summer and am very pleased with the results. They add about 4.5 lbs to the rim.

I have 96 runs on these now and this is what I’ve experienced. Slowed car less than .02 .

I did switch from Hoosier to MT when installing new tires and the back of the car feels more stable at speed and even noticeable while driving in the pits.

I couldn't agree more on Neil and Parks. Frank and Scott are real ol'school racers and craftsmen.

Excellent quality, great prices, and quick service!

Give them a call and they can answer all of your questions!

I put 16 screws in my wheels years ago when that's what pro/stock did. If you look at a tire while it's working, it always has 1 wrinkle at every screw location. It made my 7 second altered work better. Quite a bit cheaper than beadlocks , lighter too!

I’ve been looking into bead lock conversions. If you have 16” wheels it’s usually only 50 bucks more to buy new bead lock wheels from Jegs. Think I’ll just buy new and sell my current rears

Probably selling my 16x16 double beadlock convo pro wheels this winter, 5x5.5, sfi tags spun off a while ago (which is why I’m selling).

Champion Beadlocks. Mine were delivered a week late because I requested a plain jane no notches beadlock. I can only presume everyone at that time were going with something other than a plain jane beadlock as the reason.

When the wheels arrived in Florida I called Champion and told them the bill was wrong, the girl said no it's not they were a week late. I said ok if you say so. She took $200 off the bill at her discretion. We never even spoke from the day she got them in California, to the day I called her to discuss the bill.

Champion also offers a different system which I went with, and a standard beadlock system. I bubble balance wheels and tires for friends who drag race. It could be just a coincidence but my Champion beadlocks on Weld Wheels always take less weight to balance. I highly recommend Champion and the gal that works there as Top notch.
