Drag radials?
Hello, would like some first hand information on drag radials. Currently running 32x14-15 bias, car weighs 3000 with driver and runs 6.50. Would radials be a better choice? Thanks

Probably not.

1. Not enough info, footbrake or trans brake?
2. Drag radial or radial slicks?
3. What do you hope to gain?
4. What is your home track, whey class do you run and how is the track prep?
5. Do you have good double adjustable shocks front and rear?

Run S/P, trans brake, run Indy, Edgewater, Ohio valley. trying to get more consistent 60 ft. times. Usually tracks are good but there are times 60 ft will change couple hun. Don't have double adjustable shocks. thanks

Don’t make the tire change. Do invest in Afco double adjustable shocks. What specific tire, brand, part # and how much air? Ladder bar?

I run 11-12 psi in my MT 3074 tires, ladder bar car with the bars in the top front hole, 2800 lbs 71 Camaro. Runs 6.40's and 60 foot usually only moves within 1 number between multiple tracks, different days. Powerglide (1.80) and 4.56 gear. It honestly sounds like 8.6 psi is way too low, and being 3000 lbs most people I talk to say thats where a Stiff sidewall can start being used.

With that said, I have been considering trying the new 31/11.5 DBR next season or possibly just switching to the 31/14 D05 Hoosier tire..

Just for comparisons, my 4 link Firebird below, weighs 3211 lbs. has Afco double adjustable shocks on all four corners, runs 5.60-5.80 depending on weather and track and rolls on Hoosier 31.5/12.5W aired to 12psi, never spins and 60 foots low to mid 1.20s off the trans brake with the wheels in the air for at least 60 feet.

Prior to this tire, I ran Hoosier’s 32.5/13.5 radial slick for 10 years on this car.

I’d always skew in favor of radials where possible.

They may not be a bolt-on fix, but once you make your car work on them, it will be much better than what you have now.

I’m running 9” radials and have been down to 1.36 on them running 6.30s. A good friend of mine is going 5.70s in a tube-chassis Vega on the 14” radials and his car has been unbelievable since making the switch.

Both of us are using transbrakes and glides.

get double adjustable shocks first, that will allow you to do what any recommendations you have. Also need to have adjustable in the front as well becasue that is part of the chassis tuning. Don't get into tire conversation as either company will work, just takes something a little different.

where is the 4 link IC and weight percentage, you have plenty of tire and should be dead hooking that car.

Having bracket raced on radial slicks since 1999 and on 2 cars, having run Hoosier’s 30/10.5 on my stock style suspension Chevelle and their 32/13.5 on my 4 link former super stocker Firebird, I will say that unless your car is amongst the best working super stock cars in the country, you spin the tire as of on ice on junk tracks and you will experience radial wobble on cold tracks and if your car doesn’t touch down square from wheelies. If non of this is a concern then have at it.

I run a car that is 3200 with me in it...it is a 4 link car with a dana 60 and 5:13 gears...I run a glide with 180 straight cuts...I use the same tire as you, the MT 3074...I go to the water box with 12.4 lbs. in them and never spin...I do have AFCO double adjustables out back and AFCO singles up front...try more pressure and shock adjustment...

Make the change and never look back.
Some adjustments may be necessary, but it's worth it.

I would agree with others that the first change needs to be double adjustable rear shocks. For the money I would suggest afco or JRI sportsman series

After all the recommendations going to get set of double adjustable rear shocks, have single adjustable front struts. Still curious about radials. Talked to MT tec and they said the 3076R should work fine on decent prepped track. Has anyone had real experience with this tire? thanks
