Radial Front Runners

B KINGRadial Front Runners
Anyone running radial front runners on their door car?
I've been running radial slicks for about 15 years & decided my next set of front runners would be the same.

markemarkDo you think radial fronts could be used with bias rears?
May 05, 2024, 09:58 AM
BP758As long as you run radials rear..
Mixing could be an issue.
Radials don’t give, bias doo, be interesting to see some input here.

markemarkMany running rear radials are using bias fronts that work properly being mixed, just saying.

qtrrcrI used to run bias fronts and rears, for several years now I have run radial fronts and bias rears, I have seen no difference except I get a lot more life out of the radial fronts.

Thanks Scott!
I've been running mixed since switching to radials with no issues. I'm assuming there will be no issues with running radials up front. The only thing I have read is some people not liking them coming down from a wheelie, no reason(s) given.
M & M,
I think we are fine with mixing because we are running straight a line. I think it might be an issue for the knuckle heads over driving their race vehicles. Maybe someone will chime in on your question of radials in front/bias rear. OOPS, I forgot they did qtrrcr!

Tex013BKIng ,
those are new but way out of my price range ! Especially when converted to Aussie peso .
I am a ways slower than you so run a 185R15 street radial , have done for years .
As those MT are LT I dont see a speed rating , yes we dont maintain a high speed but something to think of . Hope they are better than some of the other MT front radials I have seen .

I emailed M/T today about the tire in the OP & gave them the part #. I explained my cars weight & the MPH it runs. Below is the response, take it for what it is!
"None of our drag tires, including the fronts, are going to have a speed rating due to their intended use. In the ¼ mile it is whatever speed you can throw at them, for normal driving they are tested up to 80mph for sustained speeds."

B KINGI got the radial front runners ordered today. Seeing the new rims arrived. Too bad I don't have a car to mount them on right now.

B KINGGot the tires today, nice looking tire. They are about 4 lbs. heavier ea. than what I've been running. I need some weight up front anyway.

TomRI can only see mixing being a problem on a street car.

markemarkI needed tires in a rush and ordered the bias 25” MT 3001 ET Fronts. Wish I had more time to investigate the MT 3850 ET Street Drag Radial Front as it could possibly be a better choice for me with my car leaving wheels down. I’m going to watch for those using these MT Radial fronts at the track to see what they look like.

M&M,
I currently run the M/T 27.5" bias ET fronts. They've been on the car for 2 seasons. They hold air reasonably well & lose 1-2 lbs. a month.
As for the radials, they will not get tested until Sept. I'm hoping they will help to lessen my wheel stands. Although I would rather do it with static weight vs. rotational weight. I'm mainly using a launch retard & front suspension to control the wheel stands now.

markemarkFor cars launching wheels up, I think a bias tire would set down from a larger wheelie softer than a radial given the front shocks and other settings used.

banjoI am curious to see if there is any et going from a bias to a Radial in the front. It makes almost a 10th difference in my car on the rear, granted it's a bigger driven tire. But you would think there is still less rolling resistance between the two.

I doubt there will be an ET gain but maybe a mph gain. I don't want or need the mph, but we'll see. Regardless, it's going to be hard to determine et or mph with the tire change due to making 2 other changes in the set-up.

What size (pt#) MT front radial did you purchase and are they mounted on your new wheels?
July 29, 2024, 01:26 PM
B KINGM & M,
The part # & link is in the 1st post. I haven't got them mounted yet, hoping to do that soon. No testing until I get car back from body & paint.

B KINGI got the M/T front runners mounted on the new wheels today. Them M/T radials sure are heavy. I got the back M/T radials dismounted from the old rims & got reminded how heavy they're too!
Hope to get the rear tires mounted on the new beadlocks in next couple of days, then balanced.
I'm really not liking the black sidewalls & black rims so far but the boys like them. In hindsight, I should have bought the rims polished!
