1st off let me state I absolutely love my Big Dawg 139 starter flexplate combo. It has been flawless for several years before the drive gear sporadically stopped engaging. I pulled the starter to find the actuator arm was bound up in the retracted position when removing the solenoid. Worked the actuator arm manually several times and it began to move freely. All components look like new and nothing foreign was causing a bind. Lubed up the pivot point and everything appears good again. Nothing changed other than taking it apart and inspecting it. Since this is not an emergency, before calling Mark figured I would check here to see if others had experienced the same.

I had a solenoid go bad, actually the start connection stud broke internally and have always had a spare drive in the trailer but never had to use it. And that's cranking a blown alcohol motor

Just received a free replacement solenoid this morning for my std super duty starter. it quit on me in the lanes last weekend. Solenoid would keep the drive spinning, but not engaging starter to flexplate (thankfully) while power was on....weird. Mark said it's rare, but happens.
