What's everyone's opinion on Clay Smith Cams? Spoke to them today & went over my new 496 combo & got a recommendation on a Solid Roller cam, seemed pretty knowledgeable.
3300 pound race ready backhalf car with 5.14 gear, 33x15x15s slick glide with 1.80's
13-1 496 with older Brodix BB-2 heads with some minor port work, Victor jr intake, 950 alky carb.

Odd a straight cut cam with using alky for fuel. Myself I’d look for an engine guy that specializes in built sprint car engines on alky and talk to him about a cam. A 900hp 468 sounds like a good runner.

I'm no cam guru, but those numbers are all fairly close to what I have in my current alcohol 468 for a 3600# car and the new one that I am building.

I like the cam you are considering, I'm sure it will make good power but at 3300lbs I think a little less duration might help.
I've been comparing all my numbers from the last 10 yrs or so and about 6 different but similar bbc combo's. All 454-496 solid roller bracket engines.
The timeslips don't lie. In my experience, anything in the 270/280 range will make more power but at the expense of 60' numbers, thus slower ET's but more mph. Consistency and predictability don't seem to be affected.
I run as little as 257/265 @ .731 and it's by far the quickest 1/8 mile combo we have. Runs 2-3 mph less that the 270/280 stuff but is a solid .10 or more better in 60' and about .2 faster in the 1/8
I just recently had seven different sets of heads we run flowed and chambers/runners measured and those numbers are very interesting.
