How much would ET improve by going from 4.50 to 5.14 gear. 3500 stall, 500 HP at 6700, 3000 lbs., 28 inch tall drag radial. 7.07 now at 100.5 MPH. Anyone have a drag strip simulator that would provide a number?

If this is a dedicated racecar, I’d suggest a major stall increase first. Tony Leonard

I wouldn't, the converter is currently slipping 19-20% as is, crossing 6700. Three speed automatic I'm sure. 8 - 9" converter or a gear change will pick it up. How much?... I dunno... a tenth possibly. Flip a coin gear or converter. Or get a XHD JEGS 9" and change the gear. Those are killer converters for the money, hurry before everyone figures out how good they are, and the cost skyrockets. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mike Rietow,

THIS!!! ^^^^^^^ 1/8 mile MPH indicates enough HP for that car to be going 6.70's-6.80's easily. 5300 stall minimum, 5700 would be my target. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

With a 3 speed the OP has just about the right converter. with a 3 speed ya want the drop back rpm to power through peak torque after each shift. Changing to a 5.14 gear will accelerate the engine rpm to the shifts, through peak torque harder. I'm sure this is a little stroker sbf 302. Probably a 347. 5700 converter would hurt et badly, 4000 - 4200 JEGS 9" XHD and the 5.14 gear will make it rip. The OP is on the right track with his approach (5.14 gear), if he can make it stick. The trick to this is gonna be a converter slipping 10-12% at the stripe, in order for it to cross around 6900-7000 rpm with the 5.14 gear. It's slipping 19-20% now with the 4.50 gear, I could see slip improving to 14-15% with the 10" converter in the car now which would be ringing it out pretty good at the stripe *5.14*, so it may need an upgrade in that department to a 9". Don't matter which 9" used, but if the OP were to go XHD, to hit the 4000 stall target first time out, choose the option 400 rpm higher stall than 4000 target. The XHD converters are rated at 600hp.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mike Rietow,
