Alcohol carb question
I have a new to me(used) alky carb. Unknown history. I took it apart to clean and just see what jets it had. I found no jet extension on rear jets. Where can I get proper extensions for these large alcohol jets? I think the extension is needed just like a gas carb. Never had a alcohol carb so don’t know. Thanks for any help.

Kind of related, what fuel filter if any is the best to use with a alky system. I have a mech pump setup.

Been running alcohol on my junk since the 90's. I do not run a fuel filter, never have. I filter the fuel from the drum to the jug and again from the jug to the fuel cell.

X2.

Shine a flashlight in your full to the brim fuel cell at night, will tell you if you need a filter. This is the fuel check for every new drum.

Although this may be working for you I see no reason not to run a filter! Sooner or later it will bite you if you don't no matter what fuel you use.
I have run gas carb, alky carb and alky injection, all had filters with no issues.

I have used two, a BG canister filter and the Ron's deal on alky.

For fuel filter go to Smileys racing on line and get their alcohol filter with stainless element. They are around $50 total and very large. By far best filter I have used. Now I am running mechanical injection so I run two of them for less restriction. One is large enough for any carb and most injection systems.

I definitely recommend running a filter on alcohol but it must be stainless filter element.

I prefer to run jet extensions in the rear but make sure your float is not obstructed. If you use the notched black float be careful they are easily damaged and need to be changed at least every other year. Many replace them yearly.

Already have new floats along with rebuild kit with new needles and seats. Rear float is notched.

You need to measure the thread size. Gas jets are 1/4-32, Holley methanol jets are 5/16-32, and if it was a BLP "L" jet metering block it is .350-32. If you need 1/4-32 from BLP you want "R" jets. Holley methanol thread is "H" jets. And then the "L" jet. we also have a custom 3/8-32 for blow thru apps...

What element are you using in that BG canister. I have one of those but took it off for alky as all I've found is the paper/cellulose elements not recommended for alky.

Hard to say for sure. We've seen 598's where a 1050 was faster, and even on a 632. Some of it I think has to do with distribution, and venturi to bore angle on the bodies can make a difference. We have a couple big blade carbs here with smaller venturi that seem to be best. Small blocks can be different, especially large stroke engines with high velocity ports and runners, may run as well or a little better with a larger carb.

Consistency shouldn't be an issue when tuned correctly.
