Anyone running the D1600 XS Battery? I recently purchased a new car that has this battery in it and I'm not too familiar with them. Any feed back is appreciate, and no im not looking to get a new battery or swap just want some feedback on this one.

The 16 volt battery will spin it over about 20% faster but go dead about 20% faster. When it gets down to 14 volts or so it will not start your car. May not be a problem but with injected car if barrel valve is not just perfect it will not start quickly and you have a problem.
The 16 volt battery works fine with most electrical components. 16 volt does make a LOT of heat from my O2 control box as they are designed for 12 volt, they work with 16 volt but they create a lot of heat and that bothers me some.
Through the years 16 volt has let me down twice in later elimination rounds and would not start. One time the battery itself may not have been all of the problem the big battery charger quit working (nearly new) and we were using the other small trickle charger. It was not enough.

Not sure how to explain it but it is like being geared higher, spins it faster but if load it too high and voltage down it will not start.

For that reason many are going back to 12 volt system. Still if you have a good new battery I would use it 12 or 16 volt. Not big enough difference to buy a new one.

I recommend running an alternator if you run one. Or putting it in a charger after every pass.

Buy a 16 volt maintainer and use it. Those batteries have worked great for me.

^^^This^^^

Get a XS smart charger or the Moroso 12/16 charger and keep it plugged in 24/7 if possible. 16V batteries will last alot longer when plugged in 24/7 to a maintainer

In the 12 years running 16v batteries I have only had 1 time the car did not start due to a battery issue and that was with a Rock battery that failed. I would never go back to a 12 volt system

I’m with Steve on this, I made the mistake of trying to save some money by buying a used battery. A guy had a Super Stock car he was switching to 12 volts and I bought one of those dual voltage batteries from him. It was junk!

Needless to say I should have bought a new one.

Same here only had one issues with a 16V battery and that was caused when I left the cars power on for a month. It actually charged up and came back to life. I have run XS for over a decade.

I think no matter the battery voltage, if using an alternator, as large as possible (up to 150 amp), and a pulley ratio of at least 2-1 is a wise/ best choice. Make no difference what your calculated total running amperage load is.

At my pit area, I turn the master disconnect off when not needed. I never charge my 12v battery at the track… NEVER! I replaced the 9 year old car battery 2 years ago, giving the old one to a racer for his trailer winch battery that he’s still using. I use a AC trailer winch when needed.

MarkMark, The emphatic "Never" regarding charging at the track has me wondering why; on that strategy...Thanks for sharing...

This is getting a little off topic but I almost never charge at the track. I couldn't tell you the last time I did. I will say it's a 12v small block car on alcohol that I rarely have to run the radiator fan with. I do occasionally in the heat of summer now that I am running a thermostat.

I have made 13 passes in one day when I won two five round races and had on re-run. without charging the battery. I only run a 55amp mini alternator also. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I do not care if you have a 12 volt system or 16 volt system a battery maintainer is a must in my opinion.

At the track?

I have used Battery Tender brand maintainers at home 24-7 for years on everything but our vehicles.

My cars are 12v with alternators, and I don't charge while racing but I've started to put Tenders on in the trailer overnight.

No, I only use a batter maintainer at home in the shop. At the track I use a larger, higher amp charger between rounds. When I was running a 12 volt system with alternator I never charged at the track. Since going to 16 volt I charge between rounds and I always try to run alternator. On this last car that is not an option and it has already bit me once.

Do you run an alternator, if so do you still charge between rounds? Also how many years do these batteries last? Is there anyway to test them ?

I ran a Powermaster Ultra Mini 50amp for years but last year year Mark Payne built me a 75 amp Ultra and I do always charge between rounds but I have double entered etc for years without issue.

I change out my batteries after 3 years but I don't see any reason why you can't go 4 if you wanted to especially if you are using a battery tender during down times and off season.

Tony, did you have any problems with the Powermaster alternator?
I was looking at the Denso mini 75amp XS volt Powermaster for a future project. This one has an adjustable regulator that adjust 13.5-18.5 volt output

I had one go bad this year. 3 years old but as most everyone will tell you very little track time on it. It does sping car over like the plugs are out. I have crankled mine 10 or 12 times while tuning on BV and fuel system. Never had it fell me tell it died. Mine showed 18v but the amps were dead, guessing shorted between plates or something.

All of that said I bought another.
