Haven't tried the 1.69. They didn't get a positive review. maybe they are better now.
running the Hoosier c1550.
I have a 1.80 trans now. I was looking to acquire a spare as my 1.80 has a ton of passes on it.(not many at this power level)
Havent ran 1/4 mile in a while. figured the 1.58 would lose some but just wondering how much. Abruzzi thinks it will be over a tenth if I leave the 4.10 in it. Might just sell the 1.58 out of it and buy a new 1.80

He hangs out with people, with a clue.
If it's all 1/8 mile why are you still geared for the 1/4 mile.
He's learned a lot about torque converters - how to outrun the clueless.

A lot us of just dont see the benefit of spending that much money for those 2 parts. If you were approaching 2000 hp, then this conversation would be different. But at BEST, you are making 1350 hp, and that by no means NEEDS a 1.58 planet. You WILL have to change the rear gear, other wise you will have a 4.60 car. All i am saying, is there is cheaper ways to tame the car down. Just in case you didnt know about the cost of the planet, see below.

Mike RietowIt's not about taming the car down.
It's about outrunning everyone.
You don't comprehend the performance fundamentals of torque converters.

B KINGI've been trying to follow this thread & yes, it's pretty hard with all the grade school BS.
I plan on using/testing with our current 1.76. If it works & I'm happy, it will stay. My recent trip to Hughes, we discussed the 1.69 & 1.58 ratios. Right now, leaning towards the 1.69, but we'll see.

It might work, and it might not. I am saying that he is going to spend a lot of money to pick up .01-.02 AT BEST, and that is if he gets the right rear gear in it. Now, my question is, why in they hail, would you spend 4000 dollars to pick up .02? Hell, spend 8000 on an aluminum block that you KNOW will pick up the car .06-.08.

CURTIS REEDThere are going to be 2 guys there, one that will be the quickest and one that will be the winner. I know which I will prefer to be. Sometimes they will be the same. This is bracket talk after all as it has been pointed out many times.
Guess the guy that owns the place is clueless too.

I agree with this and only way I would go to the 1.58 is if I needed to soften hit some and calm it down. Then if you go to taller rear gear that defeats the purpose and limits your RPM range on top end.
For most of us the 1.80 is probably best choice but we are not all the same.

-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.
Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

LOL....yet still no proof of the 3200lbs or a 5second slip.
And before you start.....one hail mary 5.9999 pass does not make it a 5second ride

You keep saying there's no proof while looking at back to back 5 second timeslips two weeks apart.
Why should I post the slips again? Two weeks from now you'll be back in here saying there's still no proof LoL!!

The BozmanPut a GRID in the car and spend the $1000 there and put a 1.80 or 1.69 in the trans. You can probably sell the 1.58 and pay for everything you should buy to get your ready for both cars. Good luck and let us know what you plan on doing.

Nitrous1I asked a few months ago about 1.69 gear sets. What life span are you getting out of them at this power level? Are they all created equal? I see sonnax makes a 1.65 and a 1.69.

DragRaceResultsFYI there's a for sure difference in quality of the 1.69 and 1.65. I had the 1.65's in my 2018 cars because there was a rash of breakage with the 1.69's that I was aware of.
I have to say I've learned a lot the past couple years. Almost sold my 1.58's last winter. Backed out of the deal with the guy and decided to stay with it. Glad I did now. With this new tire I'm not afraid to add some gear. Will be real interesting.
