Moroso accumulator fitting removal

Not sure how to tackle this one. I have an accumulator with a solenoid on it, that I need to remove from the accumulator. But of course the end of the unit turns when I try to spin it out. There are two spanner holes, but I don't have a spanner wrench that would help here. Not even completely sure where to buy one.

Any tricks to holding that end to get the fittings out without special tools? Or guidance where and what to get to hold this?

Use 2 punches in the spanner holes.
Bridge the punches with a bar or big screwdriver to hold the plate.

If that does not work you could make a spanner wrench from some flat stock and a couple bolts.
I just made one to do my 9" ford rear.

I do remember wrestling with my accusump to remove the fitting.....just don't recall exactly what I did.....

What Rich said. I made one out of some flat bar stock and couple of bolts. Worked like a champ. You can cut out part of the bar stock to clear the solenoid or build it in a Y shape. Good luck!

You should be able to pick up an adjustable spanner wrench pretty easy.

You could just pull the end cap out and clamp it flat to a table top also.

I tried the two punches first, but of course the fitting was completely in the way of that setup. I need to either do the flat bar or buy a spanner. Thank you guys!

I'm late to the party and when I read the post I knew that fitting would be in your way so you couldn't use the 2 punches or the flat stock. What you can use is 2 pieces of flat stock. Put a bolt in the ends of the flat stock and then bolt the other ends of the flat stock together making your own pin spanner.

Remove the snap ring, the take the entire end plate to a vise and remove the fittings. Don’t forget to remove the pressure first!

ordered a cheap spanner from Amazon. Good point about the pressure! Im not entirely sure the valve was opening. So I will crack it and see if I get a stream. Guess I can pull the air pressure out of the other end if there is oil in it. But I can keep the end on it this way. Easy. Thanks all!

The solinoids are directional and only go one way to work right.

Twice I've managed to splatter myself and the side of my trailer with oil at the track from Accusump.

The side marked IN on the solenoid go's toward the engine IIRC.....I'm at work so I can't confirm that but am pretty sure.

If you put it in backwards it won't hold pressure.....

My car has not run for about 6 months and still has 60lbs in the tank.....


I honestly don't recall how I got mine apart but know for sure I took it off the car and pulled the end apart at least once.

It was not working right and was erratic....

The piston was likely being hung up at times from the case being slightly squeezed by the mounting clamps I used to mount it. Bought them from Chassis Shop-Pro Works...

Holds tank on flat mount from Racetech above trans. saddle clamped to upper frame rails...

I moved the clamps to the ends and no more issues....

Its ugly but I could care less.....it works...

I pull mine apart every time the engine comes out and clean it as regular maintenance.

I found it to be best to take the clip out and remove the cover. Way more manageable and I’ve done both ways. The bonus is you can clean out the inside that will have oil sedament.
I removed the gauge and put a compact fiting on so I could tuck mine between the belt driven fuel pump and system 1 filter on my BBC. One less clunky thing to see.
