I am working on putting together new ignition system for car. I am machining a belt drive distgributor, Pretty much give rotor place to spin and spit fire. I have crank trigger already on car. Going to need control box and coil. Grid probably happen later, so need to be able to add on
Looking at msd 7227,older 7Al and maybe even older one with less bells and whistles that just seem to muddy the water. Had msd 82161 coil suggestged. Makes strong power. My question is the coil final output regulated by control box. Hey admit to elecgtronic ignition lack of knowledge,hell had nothing but mags on my stuff for almost 40 years now. Had no reason to keep up with electronic stuff. While like everyone I want to most firepower can get,but need something that will last till I decide to change,Which with me probably not super long time,LOL I don;t want to be buying the latest greatest trick that will die in few months.

If I was starting from scratch and did not have class restrictions (Some of my races no grid etc allowed) then I would get the Mega Squirt ignition. That has capability for Electronic Fuel Injection, individual coils and cylinder tuning, can control shift, timing, nitrous and many other things.
I like the idea of 8 individual coils, they can be mounted on side of block down low out of the way with really short plug wires and they use cheap factory style coils.
As I said in another thread I am trying to stop making changes on my combination and concentrate on seat time, weather data, driving and winning. Every time you make major changes you start from scratch and make it hard on yourself to be competitive.

Seems lots of folks like the dseperate coil deal. Not big fan. Seems like more stuff to go bad and then have to find out which one. More wire connections and more stuff to figure out where to mount. Side of black pout here. Ever seen how much space is left on left side of Hemi with 20 line going from pump to pan?
After looking at all the stuff needed to setup new deal I will probably stick with mag and just buy more backup stuff. Guess follow crowd is just not in my system.LOL
