Float weight
Anyone weigh their floats before and after? I pulled a bowl and weighed my float and it's gained 8 grams from when it was new. I let it dry in the sun and it was still heavy. How much weight gain have others seen? How much is too much? This is an alcohol carb with nitrophyl floats.

I weigh my floats several times a season to maintain consistent fuel bowl levels. I do run alcohol and floats are susceptible to saturation.
New Holley floats are 11 grams when new and I change them out at 15 grams or more.

^^^^agree this correlates to what results I see. I empty my bowls after racing weekend, and fill them with gasoline. Makes for easy start next time and keeps them cleaner.

Floats I had were from ATM and they epoxied them where the metal meets the nitrophyl, they were slightly over 11 grams and when I weighed the front it was 19. New Holley I put in was 10.73 out of the package. I've been using an engraver to mark their weight new on the float arm.
I'll dry the old one out and see how long it takes or if it will ever get back to original weight. I've not drained the bowls but I have shut the pump and let it run out of fuel. Only problem I had with that method was when restarting after sitting the needle stuck on one bowl.

At least you guys can get floats. I run one of the QFT dual needle and seat bowls on the rear of my carb and they have been discontinued. I bought it in 2016. Luckily I bought a second set in 2017 and can cycle them out but have only done it once in 2018.

Now I'm curious about the weights of them since I run Methanol also. The reason I changed them in the first place is I was having an issue of fuel running over. What I found was the seam on one of them was rubbing the divider of the bowl and hanging. It wasn't actually a problem of them being fuel soaked.

I have O2s and only have to run 4 to 4 1/2lbs of fuel pressure so I actually haven't seen any reason to change them but after my next two races I'm probably about done so I will check them when I clean the carb. I always put my gas carb on for winter.
