Higher the cranking compression, the earlier the motor will lay over. A buddy had a 13 degree 440" sbc that had 300 because that is what engine builder wanted. Car was slow and quit making power at 6000 rpm. Changed cams, the engine went down to 220 psi and made 100 more hp and 100 more torque, at 1500 rpm higher.

thanks for info. Was just asking what number others had seen. The fact he got to 300 is accomplishment.IMO This combo never sees 7000 rpm in 1/4.Would love it if we do the mph will be badass. Only way we have to worry about laying over is if we drop holes on top end. All part of reason I did not go into what combo was and just asked for numbers other have had.

Getting to 300 does take some work compression and cam timing wise. Right now we are almost 280 and going to see how much power boost we get since 15 to 20 more than ever had.
