I’m changing the converter in my 1960 Chevrolet pickup. It’s a brand new converter how much transmission fluid should I put in the converter before install it?

It is not an issue; it can be installed without fluid. The pump will fill it quickly. Generally, I will pour a 1/2 quart or so but sometimes I forget. In either case, pour four quarts in the trans, start engine, run for a few seconds, shut off, add another quart, restart and check and add as needed while engine idles. About halfway between add and full with a cold trans is good. Larry Woodfin

I always pour at least 1 qt in on 8-9 inch converters. On the 10 inch TD converter I added 2 quarts
