Mega Dial panel dial boards are giving me a "Com Fail" code where the dial is displayed on the main unit.

Is this an issue with the data cable? Anyone know where I can get a new one? They're not listed on the digital delay site, at least not where I've seen them.

Yes. Looks similar to a cord you would use to plug your computer into an internet router

So you can simply use another phone cord to rule that out is why I asked. I made my own to a custom length so I know there is nothing special about them.

I had the communications cable go bad once. I believe the connector is wired differently in these compared to a standard phone cable.

Look at the wire colors on each end of the connectors closely before you test with any old phone cable.

I see that I bought two of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002J1SUU/?th=1

14 footers to reach to the back of my dragster. I THINK that these were the 'good' ones but I'm not 100% sure.

These are shielded 'straight' cables, so both connectors would look identical as far as wire color order from left to right on the connector.

The colors don't matter at all. The wire has no idea what color it is. As long as the color of wire is in the same spot on both ends. It's just making a connection.

Thanks, Professor. Some phone cables are wired to have, say, yellow on the left end of both connectors. But other cables are wired to have yellow on the left end of one connector, but on the right end of the opposite connector.

That's gonna make a difference.

I finally got around to looking into this yesterday. It seems I do not have a phone cable. I have 4 wires going to the main unit (Red - Power, Black - Ground, Blue - Communication, Purple - Communication) With screw terminals inside the Switch housing/display.

The head unit display either states Error, or Com Fail. And the dial Boards display either Dashes (Com Fail on head unit), or Err (Error on head unit).

I'm wondering if the head unit itself is the issue. If the boards can display "Err" wouldn't you think it is communicating with the boards?

Called yesterday. He told me the issue is with the Blue wire if there is a Com Fail signal. He recommended I try jumping a wire between the two Comm terminals on the unit.

I tried this and still showing a Comm fail. I guess the main unit is shot.

Send it to Digital Delay service. Always had quick response and quality repairs when needed from them.
