So here we go.
I have been running alcohol for many years. It is going on a bracket car with a 820 hp 540. I am looking for a carb that will repeat all day long.
Just like every racer in the country Lol.
I just want to know who you guys think is the best out there and why.
Thanks.

Any of the major builders can build a great alcohol carb APD, BLP, AED, Rupert, Ken Jones, Nickerson and so on. My preference is APD. That being said it takes more than a carb it's the total package. Many cars "running the same number" all day aren't running flat out but they are consistent enough that the driver can kill or drop to deadon a majority of the time.

Do a search and you will probably come up with all the same names people are going to post. Most all of the top builders can get you where you want to go. I know that doesn’t answer your question but after everyone posts up their suggestions you will still have to choose one. Davinci, May, APD, BLP, just to name a few really good builders.

we have ran: Rupert, APD and Pro systems alcohol carbs. I personally like the APD the most even though there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pro systems or the rupert

know of a few people running BLP or May who are pleased with them.

I do not think you would be displeased with any of the ones mentioned.

I run a alky carb now. Will for 1 more season then i am going injection. The ability to run on gas to and from the lanes and warm up is a huge bonus... Something to think about ...

With an alky carb you can run on gasoline with a Primer Plus plate mounted below if desired. I believe this works the same as when using with MFI.

To the OP. Prior to purchasing MFI, search out someone at a track you attend that uses this method to see what it all involves. Although simple to use and tune, I believe few are using MFI in bracket racing.

I’ve never owned a carb on my race engine and never will.

If you do decide to run injection, I would give James Monroe a call. You can buy someones used stuff if you please, but I would still send it to James Monroe to set up afterwards

That method is less then ideal and works very poorly...

A primer plus (PP) deal will work with a carb the same as with injection however there is one small difference. MFI tends to be a little rich at idle and therefore it helps more run the PP to and from the lanes vs a carb. Also before switching from the alky carb to the PP you need to shut off the fuel pump to the alky carb to allow the bowls to drain before turning on the PP system. Also the PP works just fine during the first warm up and before you put the car on the trailer after racing is over!

If you run any alky setup correctly you don't need PP. With injection you can lean out the idle with the fuel shutoff valve and with a carb you can use air valve to lean out the idle during warm ups. When racing is over, trailer the car with the motor hot! and all will be good. Start it up cold to trailer it and you will see it take its toll on the cylinder walls. And on cold AM starts, squirt a little gas in the motor for easy starts.
