Canted ValveRod & Main bearing clearance?
For what it's worth, David Reher recommends 10W30 for bracket engines. Or at least he has in the past.

I've run 10w30 "Dino" Valvoline in every race engine I've had, sometimes break them in on 5w30.
I add some Lucas Zinc additive for my flat tappet cam.

For me the old .001 per inch of journal diameter works well with steel rods/cast iron block. With aluminum rods/block I always added .0005-.001 more clearance.

Straight 40w? Why not 10-40? Does it have to do with a 1st to 2nd run consistency factor?
when I first started messing with boost, bearings didnt last like they should , using 20w-50 and "tighter" clearances. We opened the clearances up some and changed to a heavy oil (50w) and bearings have been perfect ever since.
in cooler air i would pre-heat it some, since I have started using 40w and everything is sill perfect. I dont pre-heat it up much anymore, lazy sometimes, but probably should
