Bigdrive88High idle , Down on power
Friend of mine started having a issue this past weekend. Car usually runs mid 4.90's. 2008 Stratus. Started it up sat for 1st time run & the idle was higher than normal. Almost like it had a lean condition. Car went 4.98. @nd Time run idle was higher yet & car ran 5.13. Racepak shows a loss of 200+ rpm throughout the run compared to runs made a couple weeks ago. 8 EGT's on the car they are all very close to runs made a couple weeks ago. Any ideas ?

novaX522We had something similar happen this Summer. Found the intake gasket got sucked in. Replaced intake gaskets and it was back to normal.

green1You sure throttle isn’t hanging up and not opening all the way or returning all the way?

Bigdrive88We checked it. Seems to be fluid in its movement.

bbtommydDid you check valve lash? Sometimes they do that when losing a lifter.

Tom RWhen I drove a dragster for Rob, we had the same problem with intake gaskets. It would suck them in at the bottom of the ports. Idle would jump up and et would fall off.

Bigdrive88Thanks for all the opinions. Im sure the answer falls somewhere within these answers. Except for maybe the carb falling off.

rustyit is most likely a vacume leak and most likely the intake, the egts should tell the story providing the weather is taken into account, maybe one or two cyliners would be different and maybe only tenths.

183NThe high idle sounds like a vacuum leak.
Earlier this season my terminator loosened up (like rusty said!) and I had a high idle because of the vacuum leak. It didn’t change the ET because at WOT the engine was still getting all the air it wanted and the fuel was the same because of the injection. A similar vacuum leak with a carb would likely make the car slow down because the air fuel ratio would be wrong.
If you have an intake gasket leak then there’s a vacuum leak to the pan. Does the racepak log pan vacuum? That might tell you if it’s an intake gasket leak.

Bigdrive88It does & it really should pull mote than it does. Only pulling about 6". They have adjusted the regulator for it but it didnt help.

Bigdrive88Got the intake pulled today & found 1 pushrod on the intake side was actually stuck down in the lifter. No lash. Gaskets he said were maybe an issue as well.

Tom RLooks like you got it fixed. Congrats on your win this weekend.

GoobMy vote was intake valve(s) leaking.
If the intake gasket sucks in, you'll have vacuum in the crankcase as mentioned.
