For a door car, what transmission cooler/radiator system are people using?

Thanks

Stock/OEM radiator with internal trans cooler. Never an issue.

If you want more add a Jones Trans Pump.

If a cooler in the radiator is not available, use a stacked plate style cooler. They tend to be more efficient at transferring heat and more durable. Needs to be in the airstream of the fan or possibly have it’s own fan.

I have used these and I have used plate type cooler both with good results.
Latest car I am building also has a thermostat and cooler / fan similar to this one. I do not have much data on it yet. Should get it up to operating temp a little quicker and then cool it to keep it from going over desired temperature. The logger on new car records transmission temps and I should know more in after a few races.

I don't use one at all and run 4.40 to 50. Hughes pan only. Plate coolers can restrict cooler lines and increase line pressure putting undue stress on the converter and crank end play.

In my experience of installing and racing with several packages, the "B & M" style plate coolers are completely acceptable. The are rugged and trouble free and I never found any issues with them.

These have a 1/2 copper core and I do not think they restrict flow much. I have this type on both of my Alterds.

On a side note I recommend the PTFE hoses for transmission lines they do not get soggy and last much longer than regular steel braided. Only problem with the PTFE is they are harder to assemble and you do not want to kink them or bend them too much.

I've run the B&M cooler for years, it's nice with brackets and thread in connectors. I bought pre-made PTFE lined hoses from Orme Bros. Just bolt it all together and go.

Meziere Trans pan with a dragster style radiator in the bed of my truck. Using a 55GPM remote water pump.
The Trans pan keeps the trans temp around 10 degrees of water temp. I just looped the cooler lines at the trans.

Make sure your water pump is on whenever you check your coolant level.

The OP nor any bracket racer needs an $800 transmission pan plus spend another $150 on -6 hose and fittings to maintain normal transmission fluid temperatures typically seen in a bracket car!

The goal is to run consistent and be able to predict your ET as accurate as possible. To do that you need to keep all variables in range.

I could see where a pan that has a cooler with a pump that would circulate fluid through a cooler as need and even have a thermostat controlled fan would help to keep transmission temps in same range. While it may sound like overkill there is nothing wrong with being able to keep your temps in a specific range.

We already have to deal with and compensate for air and weather changes and if you can control water and transmission temps in a tighter range may be a good thing.

As competition gets tougher, packages get tighter we have to do everything possible to stay ahead of the game.

On my last car I built I have a typical cooler but run it through a thermostat that returns most of the fluid until it reaches certain temp then it runs all of the fluid through the cooler and has a thermostat controlled fan to. Is it needed? I do not know it may not help much but certainly can not hurt it.

By the way I do not see anything wrong with using a cooler in the radiator to if your system is large enough to handle the heat. Same deal get it up to operating temp quicker and try to keep it from going over desired temp.

Also I have not seen any in a while but there used to be a fan that fit between the converter and flexplate and it moved a lot of air around the converter. That seems to me like a really good deal but nobody uses them any more. I do not think it is any good as a stand alone cooler but may help with cooling.

Point is there is more than one way to skin a cat.
