Looking to see what everyone is running for trailer tire load-range/brand for their heavy triple axle trailers. I have a 46' Haulmark Edge gooseneck w/ triple 5200 lb axles, living quarters, dragster, golf cart, 90 gal methanol, etc and it EATS tires. Anytime I go on a long trip I find myself changing 1 or 2 tires on the road (>200mi). I've been running 10-ply tires and they're not cutting it. I'm upping the load range, probably going to 14-ply, but I'm also curious if there are any other contributing factors y'all have found that kill tires on these heavy trailers. | ||

When I had my 40 ft with 5200 axles I could kill a new 10 ply trailer tire pretty quick. It was weight along with heat I believe. Eventually sold that trailer and when I ordered my new one it's 50ft with 7000 pound axles and uses a 16 inch truck tire 8 ply. As long as I change them out every 5-6 years I've had no issues. If you could swap out to a higher rated axle or go 16 inch on tires you would be ahead of the issue. Just food for thought. "Eating tires", in what way? Tread separation? Irregular wear? Blow out? "ST" tires are generally not rated for high speeds. Most are under 75 MPH rated. With 16 inch wheels, some folks will run a light truck tire. "LT" 10 ply rated. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375 | |||

Also, have you ever tried the Goodyear Endurance trailer tires? They are made here and have a higher speed rating than regular trailer tires as Goob alluded to. Up to 87 mph according to the Discount Tire website. | |||

That's what mine are.. Also, when I was having issues so bad it was Texas summer and highway heat was really up there so tire temp was crazy. Our 2022 34' Vintage triple axel trailer came with Goodyear Endurance trailer tires. They're great tires & I have had no issues with them. Our bathroom package trailer is heavy around 7800 lbs. dry. Add in a 3100 lb. door car, 3000 lb. SXS, tools/support equipment & don't forget the water, black/grey tanks. I've never weighed it but somewhere in the 14000+ lb. range. While these are 16" rims/tires. I keep them at 80 psi cold & we haul at 70-75 mph. If you want the BEST an money is not a problem go with the GOODYEAR G614…going on 7 years will replace next year…probably got 50k + on them…but they have doubled in price since last set but they are well worth it… | |||

Anyone run across a 16" rim for 6 lug 5200 lb axles? Goob, when he says eating tires, it seems to be the driver side front 2 tires most recently. The first problem was he lost a tire and rim, sheared all the lugs off, we wrote that one off to didn't re-tighten the lug nuts after tire swap. This time front tire on driver side had a valve stem leak we found at buckys only 30 minutes into the trip home. The tire still had plenty air but was leaking badly at the valve stem. The tire appears to still be good. The valve stem problem, must have occured in teh parking lot of buckys. Swapped to the spare, checked again in 100 miles to re-tighten lug nuts, no issues with spare but the middle tire on drivers side was separated and swollen up and taller than the sides of the tire in the center by about an inch all the way around. Separated radial belts i'd assume. Luckily had a second spare for the rest of the ride. Curtis, the 5200 lb axles have 15" - 6 lug wheels. Dragser F465 is my son, i was along for the ride on the most recent tire situation. | |||
