It's not the button, it's the thumb that holds it down.

Isn't the mushroom just a piece of plastic installed on a micro switch?
They make a piece that mounts on the micro switch that you can adjust that you place your thumb in like a tray and just the center of your thumb contacts the button so you're not feeling the pressure of the switch.

I agree with Ed that many are using large red mushroom type, especially dragsters. But looking in door cars I also see many smaller mushroom micro switches as well.

If not already, consider purchasing a tabletop practice tree and attach to what you presently have in your race car.

I purchased a Top Bulb RT Master Course from Luke Bogacki and thought it was money well spent. It answered some questions I had and gave me different ideas and release methods that I believe are helping.

I agree with Ed on the mushroom button, it's large enough for my crappy eyes to find it. I'm still trying to find the horn button.

This is the style I was thinking of. I think someone makes the thumb rest seperately.

I have a full size tree in my shop that I use while in the car. I hook it to my t brake wire so I can use my delay box and bump buttons. I have the big red mushroom now but I have found one problem with it or I should say in my release.

I flip my wrist on the let go and if I don't come straight off, I'm .020 slow as my thumb slide up the button. I used z force for a couple years with a lot of success but lost the tree early this year and went back to releasing. I am going to mess around with the micro switch or possibly changing the way I let go by bending the elbow and staying with big Red.

A midwest racer that wins way more than his share uses the back of his hand on the mushroom button instead of his thumb. I tried it and didn't like it, probably didn't give it enough time though...

Micro switch takes next to no pressure to hold it down and the release throw can be very short.

I like the Biondo small mushroom best of all I have tested. 3000+ test hits with 3 buttons to find what I liked.
This button was least sensitive to your placement of whatever you you're using to press it, in my findings.

I modified my technique to minimize pressure related variance by using the side of my thumb and simply rotating my wrist to actuate the switch.
