B KINGNo Time for Discussion, Debating, Keyboarding or Whatever on DRR. Talk about racing!
I've covered Fri & Sat of this past weekend. Time to move on to Sun. Seeing I exposed/showed my hand a little more than I like to during this race. I'll share some of my times in relation to my dial-ins.
1st time hit: I went 9.123 @ 134 mph, lifting @ the 1,000' mark.
2nd time hit: I ran all out but was on the high side limiter after the 1000'. I went 9.009 @ 152.26 mph. I rarely do this but needed a new baseline for my last incremental time.
1st round: Dial was 9.04 holding .02 & compensating for DA increase. I went 9.046 @ 143.37, run completion predicted a 9.022.
2nd round: Dial was 9.04 & thought I was holding a little over .01. I went 8.992 @ 142.12 mph, run completion predicted a 8.964. My opponent was under by more. We had fresh track prep before this round if I remember right. This was a tough race against a tough competitor, Jon Irving Jr.
3rd round: Dial was 9.02 holding .040. I went 9.031 @ 138.90 mph, run completion predicted 8.987. I raced probably the best bracket racer in the West, CW Hoefer. I thank him for his $1 donation, it's a side bet we do when we race each other.
4th round: Bye run, dial was a 9.02 & I went 9.566 @ 113.43. I got my half-track data. I cut a .005 light my best of the day & a little tighter than I prefer to be. No time to do a run completer, basically taking care of car for in between round shyt. I'm a one man show for all this shyt. I kind of thrive on the later rounds. No time to over think shyt. Just go do what I do instinctively!
5th round: Dial was 9.02, I knew I was holding but no time to figure out how much. I went 9.019 @ 142.21 mph.
6th & final round: Dial was a 9.02, I knew I was holding but no time to figure out how much. I went 9.35 @ 119.56 mph. My opponent was Hunter Walker who dominated the Pro track championship this year. He gave it a good shot on the tree & went -.001. I was no slouch but slower than I wanted to be at .017, was shooting for a .010. It would have been a great race if he went green.
There was something I was learning with the relatively new radials with only 50 runs. They're very sensitive to air pressure changes & I was testing that during eliminations. .1 lb. of air increase kept improving the 60' times up to 19.5 when I stopped. Going to test at higher pressures & consistency in the future.
2BKING is always holding & I gave you 'al a look but didn't show my whole hand.

markemark^^^^^^^Excellent review of your win. What are the average 60’ and 1/8 mile times that your car ran during this event??

M & M,
I have to admit I was somewhat apprehensive about sharing some of my holding strategy. I consider Sun. was a mild version of my holding.
I'm pretty open about telling people at the track & on DRR, that I'm always holding. Some people ask me why I tell them that. I usually reply with you have to figure how much I'm holding & I'm always varying the hold. I'm pretty good at getting rid of my holds & I do some stupid ones sometimes. I'm not perfect but I'm probably about 90% effective getting rid of my numbers.
At 1st, when you asked about my averages in 60' & 1/8-mile times. I became apprehensive again, but the data is skewed especially in the 60's. So, I'll crunch the numbers for the averages, something I pay little to no attention to. I mainly look at my variances in the incremental times & the 60's were awful; the 1/8-mile times were slightly better but not good.
I'm always testing while racing & that's why the 60's were awful. also, I usually test/practice my 1/8-mile holds while 1/4-mile racing; this race I didn't.
I should be able to post up the averages later.

markemark^^^^^Ok, Great. I find 60’ times can/will very at some tracks, and think 330 are more accurate to base the run off of from lane to lane. I no longer compete at 1/4 mile events (geared 1/8) and find it a waste of equipment for ET bracket racing. Many of the events I race at are timeslip app and if you want paper they have a kiosk that’ll print you one. I prefer this not stopping on the return road.

M & M,
Thanks for giving me a math lesson today! I discovered I'm going to pay more attention to my averages from now on. There's a wealth of data I haven't been tapping into. So, I'm sorry I'm not going to share any more data on the Sun. race. I gave up more than I should have already.
2BKING needs to go back to school for math refresher courses, thanks to M & M!

markemarkWhen I initially spent a lot of time making small adjustments to the fuel map/ afr table/ closed loop parameters, reviewing the incrementals helped determine what changes were more consistent. This year I had a tune I ran in 4400 DA that works equally as well in 500 DA weather. I made a change to the tune in July/ August after a converter/ transmission change, only to return to what I previously used to start with.

I haven't adjusted any of the fuel side yet for consistency in varying DA swings, it's on the to do list! I used to have a pretty good set-up for my carburetor for consistency/small variance for big DA swings. There's definitely an art to tuning the fuel for it, sometimes you test just to stumble onto it.
As for my 60's on Sun. I stated they were awful & I had .029 swing, range or variance whatever you want to call it, but they were somewhat predictably quicker except for round two.
The first 2-time hits the car only varied .002 with 19 lbs. of air pressure pretty normal. I then decided to increase .1 lb. of tire pressure & the 60' picked up about .07 in the 1st round. 2nd round did another +.1 of pressure. That's the run that we ran on a fresh track prep & picked up .020 in 60'. That was the round that both of us was holding, but we were way faster than what we thought. I continued with another (3) +.1 pressure increases until I reached 19.5 lbs. The increased pressure was still showing better 60's but they were starting to settle in & show some consistency.
Whatever went on the in the 2nd round. It caught us both by surprise. I don't think it was tire related; my opponent was on small bias ply slicks.
Just wanted to add, all of my runs Sun. was in the same lane.

I was holding 5 on the .001 and .0002 finish line debacles I was complaining about. I intended to tighten up the stripe and take both. I am bad for changing my car so much that I can't get a handle on killing the ET the same every pass. I need to get better at it.

I posted this in the "Good Morning DRR" thread.
"About my 1st 20 years of bracket racing, I was an honest dialer. Around 2010 after watching different hitters kill ET & MPH in time runs. I figured out they were testing for bracket eliminations from watching them implement that testing in elimination rounds.
I decided I needed to learn this technique/strategy & it pretty much became an obsession that I still hang onto till this day. When I 1st started holding, I was a stripe hog & lost a good many rounds by being a hog. I eventually realized I needed to be able to give up the stripe also. IMO, I think the most important part is being able to kill what you are holding. I think I covered the basics, but a lot of practice is also needed. I'm sure I missed some things or forgot, my age is slowly killing my memory."
I'm glad I got obsessed with holding. I needed that strategy & then some to race the Spring Fling Million Races! I raced the Pro Class no box/bottom bulb. The class was absolutely brutal to race & I learned a lot of different strategies while competing. It was well worth the entry fees for the education & the absolute best learning experience for my racing program.
