Dave, from what I am reading, it sounds like a HORRIBLE facility layout, with an entry gate into the pit area that immediately crosses the return road, (or road to the lanes)? That is flat out asking for disaster. We all see idiot racers who lose a round and blow off their steam by ripping down the return or through the pits. We all see the guy who didn't hear the call to the lanes until his class is running, so he speeds on down there. Neither guy is EVEN thinking about some spectator vehicle, or crew vehicle crossing his path. And some crew person or family member who JUST entered the gates is busy putting away their checkbook, or texting the driver to let him know they arrived, etc. They are not expecting to immediately cross a road with race cars on it. Especially worse if it is at night, no headlights on most race cars, etc.

If this keeps up, we might even see a racer run into the back of a parked dragster coming back from a round loss!

At divisional’s and Nats there are folks working traffic at all crossings. Hate this for both party’s involved.

Maybe close the crossroads and make everyone exit at the main road, top or at the buildup area with 4 way stops?? The place was designed ( I think) for cars to be able to coast to the build up. We have had many close calls and not just there either.

Raceless in California!
