Motor scooter/Pit bike?
After 35+ years of good service the Honda Spree finally gave up the ghost, for good. Guess I got my monies worth. Anyone here have recommendations on similar scooters to consider or which ones to stay away from?

I don't think you can go wrong staying with Honda. I was going to buy a new Metropolitan but happened onto a deal for a Yamaha Vino that had 300 miles on it the night before I was going to the Honda dealer. They don't make Vinos anymore. They are a little heavier and wider than the Spree you are used to though.

I bought my Honda Spree over 20 years ago at a garage sale for 300 bucks. Just sold it last year for 200 bucks. They do last and hold their value.

I bought my 2006 honda elite 80 cc back in 2009. It can fit 2 people and runs great. Slightly larger than the spree, but not by a lot. Cant go wrong with the honda.thye hold their value as well.

I bought a 1986 Honda 50 cc Spree pit bike, paid $250) then spent another $530:

new tires with new tubes
new carb
new gas cap,
new fuel lines,
new battery
and new ignition switch.

It would run for about ten feet then die. I absolutely could not find anyone with experience to fix it. I spent nearly two years calling every Honda Dealership and Honda mechanic in the San Diego County area.

I finally drove 196 miles round trip and gave it away for free. I tried to have the trash company pick it up but they actually refused.

I have a 1987 Honda Elite 150 (weighs 280#) and like this street legal and licensed size because it’ll travel the pits easily and if needed I can put my helmet on and go down the road at 50 mph. Depending on the track and event I can ride into a close neighboring town, get lunch or whatever. Easier than unhooking the truck from the trailer.

Bought an Electric bike and instantly sold my scooter. Great fun and not as heavy.

Honda Spree prob the best scooter ever. Small , light, runs forever. Yamaha Zuma is my second favorite but much bigger. No one makes a "small" scooter like a Spree any more.

One thing I forgot to mention about the Honda over either Yamaha scooters is that if you get 2012 and above on the Metropolitan the headlight moves with the handlebars. On my Vino and the Zuma the headlight is stationary. They are both still great scooters but it's one reason I had really considered the Honda. Just too good of a deal I found on the Yamaha.

My dad picked up a mid 70s Yamaha Chappy at a yard sale a few years back. Gave $100 for it an gave it to me. I haven’t rode it in the last couple of years but it was fun to ride. 2 speed “automatic” transmission as well.

As cool as it is, I think the Zuma makes for a good but vehicle.

A Honda Grom would be pretty cool too.

The classic sprees were always fun, and had that unmistakable sound.

Groms are super cool, but you’re not going to carry much of anything while riding one.

I used to carry a Spree, a Razz, and a Honda Aero 80. Now I have a golf cart and then Razz.

Spree/Razz are the ultimate 2-wheel pit vehicles.

We have a Zuma too, but they are big enough to make it difficult for my wife to put on the stand. Someone used to make a side stand for them but they’re tough to find these days.

Zuma 50. 2002-2012. In '13 they went to 4 stroke. The 2 stroke versions respond nicely to mods should you want to go that direction.

I like the grom/monkey/z125's. I can use it for many options. East to maneuver in the pits, you can take it in town if you need something or want to just cruise after qualifying, and it'll go 55 with my wife and I on it. Need to carry something, get a backpack.
Same rules apply if I go camping, you can see all the sites, and if you hit the highway traffic won't be blowing by you when you can only go 35.

I have a 2014 Zuma 50 that runs like a dream. Got a smoking deal on it. The guy had two, one was a 125 and while I thought about it for awhile I let my friend Bill buy that one.

I am a terrible motorcycle driver and have no business whatsoever being on the streets with one so buying the 50 was the right choice for me.

The only thing I don't like about it is the gas tank location because it makes it harder to carry a 5 gallon jug of race gas. Other than that it's great, love the fuel injection, fires right up every time.

I have an old Yamaha Razz that I take for my partner to ride. It's okay but not near as nice as the Zuma but it is quite a bit lighter weight wise.

As others have said, Zuma FTW!...especially the 2-stroke. I put a larger 70cc engine in mine, and it hauls a$$ :-)
