We are in the process of selling our GMC/Vintage 48 LQ and going to motorhome and tag. Has anybody here gone the route of LLC. We are researching the Montana LLC program. Looking at a Super C on the new Freightliner S2RV chassis. Any feedback on motorhome or the ONAN 8000 is also helpful. Any info from similar transactions would be helpful. Email if you prefer macmanmike@aol.com Thanks Mike Bjorum Justin, TX

Going thru it now. Basically they setup a business entity for you then you just register whatever vehicle you want to the business, i.e. motor homes, cars, trucks, etc. Very Simple, very quick. NOW the catch, if you are going to "finance" your new coach thru a bank and use the LLC good luck. Not many banks will lend to an LLC and if they do the interest rate can be VERY high (even for a new coach), (may not be worth doing the LLC). If you have other $$$ you can use like a home equity, stocks, etc. or something similar that would be the way to go and will breeze right thru the LLC process. Also I would not do it for an older coach 10 years or older, (not enough savings). It really depends on your state and tax situation if the LLC can work for you. Man was not built to fly ... The savings would be worth it @ 6.25 % sales tax. But a higher rate would kill the savings. Thanks

2018 updated tax laws. Did they not allow the deductions now going into 2018 on a second home? AKA RV Etc?. I know the laws changed on Home Equity line of credit. "ELOC"

Not sure on the 2nd home thing. We are not likely to go with the LLC. A little too unclear after reading some more opinions. And for sure not going to borrow on a paid for house.

Mike I have about 6 regular customers with the newer Onan 8KW diesel unit in mobile service trucks....Sprinters with the generators mounted in the back. I do nothing but routine maintenance so far on them. Have not had to pull one out for any repair of any kind. One customer has had 3 trucks and no issues. They do also have inverters and battery bank so generators are used less. I am guessing but think one had about 4-5 thousand hours and truck was traded for a newer one. All the others are around 2 thousand hours or less...... The older 7.5 KW unit was more likely to have issues and I've fixed many of those and some had very low hours. Low usage over a long time does more harm than good..... I just had a 2003 with just 250hrs and had to drop it out the front/bottom of a 39' Winnebago... All to replace a temp sender......corrosion build up around sender ruined it....

Hate to hijack the topic, but I'm currently shopping and the unit I'm most interested in is a 2000 with a 7.5 KW Onan diesel with 5600 hours on it. It was just serviced but it scares me a little. From what I've read, it seems like anything else; it could die tomorrow or it could go another 10,000 hours. Tony Leonard

Tony that time period for those machines had a bad rep. The rotors on those machines have magnets epoxied onto the metal shaft. They can come loose and when one does it will need a rotor and a stator. 7.5’s are good machines but most never see 5000hrs. They can go well beyond that but usually get some major and expensive repairs. I have one friend who rebuilt the engine and that is usually the most reliable part of the machine. My 7.5 has over 3500 hours on it and so far hasn't had any issues. I service it every year and use it often sometimes 4-5 days straight at the track.

Rich - what years were the problematic ones? I just bought a 2004 DP with a 7500 Onan. It only has 350 hours on it but just curious if I should be worried! Billy Duhs - BD104X@gmail.com

When I was contemplating an LLC in Montana, I read that states regularly go through records to see if they are missing out on any taxes... Fla. was actually doing it when I was looking to set it up.
