Single crotch belt. There are 2 smaller belts near where the side belts are that come out and wrap up under the leg towards the crotch belt. We've ran 7 pts in our Spitzer in Top Dragster since 2017 and in our new Miller since 2022, no harder to buckle than a 5 pt and worth it. Thought I had pictures but can't find any at the moment.

With many S/C cars now exceeding 180, you might soon see this rule apply to them.

If this rule change saves even one driver it's worth the effort.

I considered the 7 point, and may still go that way.
I've got attachments that prevent me from wearing the belts as tight as I would like. Close, but just not perfect.
The 7-point addresses the # 1 factor in a good restraint system, your pelvis MUST remain firmly in correct position, everything else will stay with it, with proper attachments.

Not that there can’t be a better mousetrap, but has a properly adjusted 5-point harness ever proven to be inadequate in a drag racing accident?

No, none I'm aware of or have ever been publicized..

I do think there is an issue with seat belts in general though, and it's not a seat belt issue, rather the wearer of the belts. I can't even begin to count how many times I've seen someone get into their car and just slip their belts on, keeping them loose and not properly tightened up. It happens a lot more than most will admit, and if there has been ANY issue about restraint failure, I'm willing to bet this is a MAJOR cause of that....

Me, I try to get my belts as tight as I can....

We don’t know if they are inadequate because no one ever tells the cause of someone’s injuries or death. There was a top sportsman driver that got ejected out of his car a few months ago and no one ever said why it happened.

It was upside down on the jersey barrier and roll cage slid between barrier where they are coupled together perfectly. Ripped the entire roll cage out of the car

Needs to be a Molly plate above the cage covering the roof of entire drivers compartment

And that’s why jersey barriers should outlawed at all dragstrips.

I can get behind that. Especially the ones with the flared base....that's just asking for open wheel cars to get upside down in a hurry.
Properly installed Aarmco is still best, for most facilities.

There is NEVER an "off season" in drag racing...it goes on 12 months of the year.

Chassis builders NEVER have an "off season"...they build new cars 12 months of the year.

But repaired Aarmco is dangerous because the repair seam of the repair is vulnerable to opening up in a crash and ripping a car to shreds.

A sever crash into the Aarmco will shut the track down in order to make a proper repair...and we all know that cars come in contact (hard and soft) with the walls all the time.

Just a reminder to be sure to get your seat belts ordered and weld in your NEW TABS.
Per SFI rules, see the last bullet.
"2 separate anchors are required"

CROTCH BELT – 6-POINT
Sports Car “Shell Type Seat” and aluminum seats with single
crotch belt hole forward of the inside seat back from 10 to 12
inches: (NOTE: Seats with a single hole positioned more than
12 inches from the inside seat back are designed for 5 point
belt installations and may not be as effective for 6-point
installations):
• Crotch Belt Angle: -20° (2” rearward) through the hole
• Two separate anchors 4 to 6 inches apart

Also found this in that document.

Option (typically for single-seat wide ****pits):
Crotch Belt mounting to the front side of the outboard
lap anchors. (Option not illustrated)
