Racer Self-Certification Tech Program
As NHRA Drag Racing is ramping up with the return to racing in many parts of the country, a new Racer Self-Certification tech program for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be introduced for participants. This program is in effect for LODRS events starting with the Atlanta and Tulsa events scheduled to begin June 5, 2020.
The Racer Self-Certification tech program for LODRS events is a further rollout of a program used successfully at national events. The program reduces physical contact in light of the pandemic situation while still emphasizing compliance with the Rulebook.
Under this program, the participant certifies the technical readiness of their own vehicle and personal protective equipment. NHRA still retains all rights to conduct spot checks, teardowns and other inspections and investigations.
This is how the Racer Self-Certification tech program works:
1. You will fill out your own Tech Card online for the event in advance. Please complete the Tech Card in its entirety and submit it. Please be sure to read the Online Tech Card Agreement fully and carefully and to fill out all information accurately.
2. You will not take your car through Tech before the event. You will be responsible for the truth and accuracy of everything reported on the Tech Card.
3. NHRA Tech Officials will conduct spot-checks and may at any time exercise any other rights NHRA has under the Rulebook, including tear-down and other forms of tech inspection. Falsifying your tech card or not complying with the Rulebook could subject you to disqualification from the event and additional disciplinary action.
NOTE: If you want to undergo traditional Tech Inspection before the event, please let us know by responding to this email, and we will try to accommodate your request. You must still submit your tech card online. You will still be subject to additional tech.
4. Remember, under the NHRA Rulebook, you, the racer, are ultimately responsible for your vehicle and personal protective equipment, and to decide whether you want to race based on all the circumstances. It’s your responsibility to be sure that you and your vehicle are ready to race, and to be familiar with the contents of the current Rulebook and comply with its requirements.
5. Once you complete your Online Tech card, the data you entered will be filled into an electronic version of the traditional paper tech card that you are familiar with. You will receive a PDF of that filled-in tech card via email. Because we are rolling out this program promptly in light of the pandemic, for the time being, the PDF tech card form will contain some inapplicable language indicating a pre-race tech inspection. We will be updating the PDF form in the future to better reflect the new tech system which relies on your self-certification and other methods such as spot-checks during events.

To be clear, this portion of the PDF Tech Card does not apply:

• Click here for Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park event information (includes pre-registration, online tech card, online waiver, etc.)

It is the governing bodies rules, it's the governing bodies responsibility to enforce those rules. When a member pays his membership dues he has every right to expect the governing body will execute their responsibilities in a fair and effective manner. JMO, I could be wrong.

This is the disclaimer and this is where YOU assume all liability. Make sure you adhere.

Ain't that the truth Dave. This is ridiculous. How about having hand sanitizer when I give you my tech card? There fixed it!

When everything is coming your way, your probably in the wrong lane.

Oh boy.. OK how about having the track use their tech folks instead of NHRA ?
The complaining on this site and others regarding safety certs should be give you a clue where this is headed.
JMHO..

I have always had mixed feelings about track tech. Frankly, it generally isn't very good and is just looking for the gotcha items. Do you really want to count on those folks to insure your car is safe? And that's the way it goes when they inspect your car. You assume that they will catch something unsafe, and you start shedding personal responsibility for it. If you are fully responsible, then you tend to do a better job.

However, some people simply have very low standards. Do I want to be racing in the lane opposite of those people?

I swear that SFI date was ok on that flex plate.

Honest....

Yearly ETI cures the problem. Glendora has the data already.

Dont forget to sign your required NHRA Covid-19 waiver. Yes the NHRA cannot be held responsible if you catch corona virus at one of their races.

I think your car just became legal for B/DA.

Might want to change your signature just in case

Man this will actually cut down on cost of racing. Wow no certs! just saved me 1200 bucks for new transmission case and bell housing.
Does this mean the old foot ball helmets can be worn?

I just got through with everything but the W9. I don't have a printer at home and I still struggle with Windows 10. So much for my stack of Tech Cards I had printed. What a PITA.

This is a Liberal idea that is similar to the new proposal "DEFUND THE POLICE".

Overall, the overwhelming majority of racers know the rules and adhere to them, but I guarantee somebody is going to do something that everyone will suffer the consequences from.
