Division 3 racer Bob Nichols has passed away.
Bob Nichols, division 3 & jegs super quick racer has passed away. He was a member here & a great friend. He was affectionately known as Dr Bob, the world renowned heart surgeon. Anybody that knew him, knew he wasn't actually a heart surgeon, lol. It started off as a joke & just stuck with him. He left behind his wife, his step son, a daughter in law & if I remember correctly, a recent grandchild. I always enjoyed our late night long winded conversations about racing & life.
Bob, godspeed. You & your family are in my thoughts, you will be missed

Long before we met, I know he raced out of Texas for quite awhile. Not sure what division that is. He lived in Indiana up until he passed, I do know he raced all over.

Yes, Bob raced out of Div 4.

Dave

Edit: Bob and I spent several evenings talking about our cars. Always enjoyed him.

Bob was my best friend. I was his crew chief for a few years, the best was 2015 when he won the Jegs Championship. Bob was down here in Florida to race the 3 day race in Orlando in late January. We played around of golf the Wednesday before the race. Great day of fun. Thursday he broke the transmission and we spent Friday rebuilding the unit with the assistance of John Winters. Pain in the butt doing it at the track. Bob was also a great mentor and confidant that I will miss tremendously, he helped me up my game with his vast knowledge and somewhat goofy ideas that most of the time worked. He definitely thought outside the box. I'm left with a trove of memories and a very heavy heart. Gwen and I have spoken a few times since Bob's passing and cried on each others shoulder. Godspeed my friend.

ok, same guy. He used to race down here with us and I remember when he moved away. Been a few years but he was a nice guy. Sorry to hear this.

Bob was a great friend and I consider him a brother. Bob and I talked every week. Bob was forever tinkering on everything. He had a lot of crazy ideas and wasn't scared to try anything at least once. We had talks for hours on things that no one, including me, would ever consider as realistic but he turned those items into a test. I remember flying into races to help him quite a few times, not to lead him or anything else, just to help him in his racing.
I met Bob in the late 90's right after I first started racing and have been close friends every since. When he was in Dallas and when he was in Louisville. His funeral is the 26th of this month and I will be there to tell some of the stories, I hope I don't get to choked up, but there will be laughs. He was a great guy, a great husband, a good father and a best friend. I loved him like a brother and his wife Gwen as well. I have been talking with Gwen quite often just making sure everything is going as good as can be. God's speed Bob, I will make sure that Hemi makes noise, it has been a project for almost 20 years now and I will see it through. I love you brother.
