My first "TruStart" experience

I ran at Galot Motorsports yesterday. I was dialed 7.39 and my opponent was dialed 5.85. I felt I must have really nailed the tree. When we reached the stripe, I gave it a tiny tap of the brake pedal and saw a 7.397 flash on the board. But wait. My win light wasn't on. I thought, man, that guy must have been near perfect. And he did have a .007 RT. But that wasn't why I lost. I lost because I had gone red. I just didn't know it, because the reds don't show until both cars have left. Yeah, the win light shows as soon as the computer has determined the smaller foul, but darned if I'm looking up there while watching my tach, my opponent, and the stripe. Oh well. It is what it is and it surely would not have changed the outcome. But I would have liked to see if I could have run 7.390 on a 7.39. My 330ft time seems to suggest it would have. I guess this blows my theory that TruStart could have been around way before now and I would have never noticed.

Can't say I haven't left first on trustart drove the stripe only to get my ticket and find out I was red.

I am not a big fan of it but those are the rules and we all run by same rules. My problem with it is that the faster cars lose the advantage of first redlight yet the lower powered slower cars are less sensitive to traction problems or track prep.
We all race same track and same rules so we deal with it and move on. My vote would be to not have it but it certainly would not keep me from racing.

I'm usually the faster car and have never had a problem with the TruStart system, they should have done it years ago. If my red light was worse I should lose, it's only fair.

I can't see the bottom half of the tree in my car, so I regularly feel stupid for racing the stripe when the race was over at the starting line.

Faster car loses the advantage but now the advantage is the slower car because he doesn’t have traction issues? Sorry but maybe slow down to get the advantage back. Not me I will just learn to make my stuff work or just dial accordingly.

Our Jr car won in the gamblers shootout at the IHRA Race of Champions weekend in the finals with a worse redlight, and we were the faster car of course. I support Trustart, but it would have worked against us there.

So if how is this different than if the faster car redlights after you had already left? Sounds like you still couldn't do your job as a driver in that scenario based on your explanation of watching your tach, opponent and stripe.

If you look at the definition of drag race, it is a race between two cars,an acceleration test usually a quarter mile. So when does the race start with timing equipment in play? ,,, When two cars (drag race) break the beam on the starting line. No matter the handicap, there is no drag race until two or more cars contesting each other break the beam on the starting line. You can't win a drag race on a single, you'd advance to the next round under those rules yes, but you didn't win a drag race. It takes two cars to have a drag race. True Start is practical rational common sense.

I only went on Sunday. It was $50 for footbrake. Those "extras" didn't cost me a nickel, because I didn't buy any of them (but you knew that).

Tom, sorry you had a negative experience with "Tru-Start" I have been evolved twice having a win light on my side both times. I do believe it levels the playing field …. Just my .02 cents

I'm 99% of the time, the slower car. And I gotta tell ya Tom ... since they started True-Start around here a few years ago ... when I leave the line .. I find myself looking at their scoreboard first, then looking at mine next, .... then, 'driving the race' ........... just seems like a natural now. ... lol.
