Just wanted to share what an awesome event IHRA put on at D42 (Darana West Salem) this past weekend. I've been racing so long that I don't normally get too excited anymore to share my experiences but I have to say, this event was different. From the time we drove in the gate on Wednesday, you could feel the difference, everyone was happy and inviting, there was excitement in the air, there was action going on everywhere, track workers were painting and cleaning, guys were clearing land on one side making way for an RV/camping area, we were escorted to our pit spot and made sure it was to our liking, IHRA officials and owner were all over the place interacting with the racers/crew and spectators the entire weekend, answering questions and supplying pertinent information. Darryl was out on his tractor every morning with his guys delivering 2 huge bags of ice to every motorhome/trailer on the property, they were running like a swarm of bees it was cool to see. The food they served us for dinner on Thursday and Friday was outstanding, and I'm not talking about a hamburger or hotdog, it was chicken/shrimp/sausage gumbo, roast beef, salads/potatoes/vegetables, amazing deserts, the workers were setting up tables and chairs and measuring the distance between to make sure there was enough room for everyone, they were happy and helpful, they even asked if they could help us bring some full plates back to our pits. They had a band there the entire weekend on a huge stage playing during downtime/track prep, skydivers bringing in the American flag and an awesome dedication to military heroes during pre-race ceremonies, we were there Wed-Sunday and it felt like it was a day because there was so much going on, they texted us when our payouts were ready so it was not a cluster in the tower, they even had snacks and refreshments for us when we went to get it. There were thousands of people there, I saw no issues, just happy families having a great time at a reasonable price to watch a great show. I know some racers will say they are not there for the show, they are there to race but, when you are a sportsman racer and you are made to be a part of that show, it makes it that much more enjoyable. It felt like the old IHRA world national days, we had full fields for Top Sportsman/Top Dragster and guys were throwing the kitchen sink at it just to qualify. Sorry for the long read but, overall, it was a great weekend and we will continue to support it and I hope others give it a try also! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Doug,

I had some friends there running their Nitro Altered. My best friend is tuning for them. He called me this morning and had nothing but great things to say about the whole weekend.
From all he has told me it sounds like it's going to be better next season, if that is even possible. They drove almost 1000 miles to compete. I'm so glad to hear that it is working for the guys putting on the races.

I think next year in this area, NHRA is gonna take a beating, 5K to win a .90 class and the chance for a "low budget" Fuel team and the other pro classes Big $$ to win is gonna open some eyes. He proved this year it's for real Bader days again I hope.
