Ditto bender ...plus those of us that need a truck during the week have a dual purpose vehicle . You can't get one too long . 52 ft is a better option than 48 to me . The bathroom pkg deal is ok but separate lq is much nicer .

We did the diesel pusher motorhome for at least 4 years. Like was already mentioned we alway felt land locked at the track. I have taken that motorhome home through more airports than I really wanted to. When we are in Vegas and everyone is going into town we were stuck. We were just in St Louis for the divisional race and we had to either us Uber or a taxi to go into town.

If you have a long car like mine the cargo area has to be very long to fit the car, my 48' LQ had a very small LQ, with the bathroom package I now have a very large living area, granted it's not appointed as nice as a true LQ. But I have a full bathroom, sleeping area for more than I'll ever need, a fridge/freezer, 48" TV and microwave. I wouldn't have this much room even with a 53' LQ. If you have a door car that changes things, the cargo area can be much smaller making the LQ larger......

I think a lot depends on how it is set up. My wife loves ours. Two big screen tv’s,fridge, microwave, coffee pot, bathroom package, queen bed, closet, overhead cabinets above the bed and side closets, couch and plenty of storage above the counter along with half of the cabinets over the wheel wells. We keep it stocked with food and clothes almost year round.

Hello All,

I missunderstood the requirements between a Class B and a Class A.

A dually will definitely be a part of the equations. I want to have a dual use vehicle and being able to drop the trailer and go into town is nice if need be.

I want actually living quarters that are divided. Wife is definitely a big factor in this. When traveling to races, or getting to a race, I want to be able to fire the generator and go to bed and not have to move stuff around.

Thanks for all the input.

How does the water and waste storage of the trailers compare to motorhomes? With the three of us going racing, the space in a motorhome is pretty nice. But the lq trailers are attractive to me. They seem much more maneuverable than a 40' mh with a 28' trailer and probably better visibility as well. I would say the maintenance costs are less with a lq and a dually. Frankly it would be nice to have the car right through the door to take a few steps in for breakfast or whatever. Maybe less vulnerable in the wind?

Met my wife in 2007 when I had a 26’ and a dualists, she wanted AC so we got a 52’ LQ trailer, which I loved. She then wanted more room and we got the MH, it’s a Freightliner truck conversion which she loves.

Both the LQ and the MH have their pluses. MH carries 200 gallons of water versus 70 in the LQ. Stability in the MH is amazing. Not having a vehicle sucks at times. Planning to make a mount for my Harley in the trailer to take.

My lq can accommodate 3 people for 4 days and carries 70 gallons fresh water . Showering and restroom . In saying that you have to be frugal about what you are doing . The downside to a long gooseneck is not length or turning to me but watching going over high places or drop offs and dragging the middle of the trailer . I try not to go anywhere to get fuel that is not a travel plaza or truck stop . With a gooseneck and dually I have never seen wind issues and my truck will run far faster than I want to pull a trailer . I have raced out of motorhomes too but I just prefer a truck and trailer . With 3 people in a lq I can guarantee you you will be crowded and there is little room even with 14ft of floor and 8 ft neck . It is tight . Don't be a cheap as a on genset either . A 7000 Honda inverter generator on a slide in a compartment will be as user friendly as it is . Mine runs over 12 hours on 5 gallons of gas and is quiet and vibration free and your neighbors will love you .

Fern,

Been thinking about a Smart Car, but there are three of us, until Katie goes to college. Smart Car has only two seats.

One thing I forgot to mention. If you are shopping for a LQ, try to find one with the real deal in frame fuel tank. Ours had it. To me it's a mandatory thing on the list.
Our Onan 7000 used .6 gallons per hour average in this TX climate. It was almost like clockwork for that average. We coulsd usually get by with taking 4 cans of extra gas for a 4 day event. We turned the generator off overnight when we could.

Fern,

Just took a little time off to build a new house and shop.

As far as the genset and fuel for a LQ, it is a lot easier if you have a diesel dualie and generator as the pumps at truck stops are very easy to get in and out of. Most gas stations are not big enough to get in and out of with a long goose neck. Just something to think about.

The diesel generator will be a challenge in most used or even new LQ trailers. Most diesel units are bigger than the gas units, and the compartments are usually built just big enough for the gas unit, usually built just big enough for the Onan 7000.
