While no connected supposedly. When make a sell getting your money is more PIA than selling item. Ev erything held for one reason or another. Plus fees are worst than IRS. Hell when I go to store they do not wiat for their money.I for one am done with both after if ever getg money out owed to me.If buyer can not do usps money order or similar then forget it.

At one time many years ago, buying and selling on eBay was fun and inexpensive. It's how I built up my collection of Hot Rod Magazine and other old drag racing ephemera. Last year I decided it was time to sell off my magazines but when I saw that the costs of selling books and magazines was 14%, I listed them on either the HAMB or sites on FB. I knew they didn't have the viewership of eBay but eventually I got rid of my items. I still use PayPal, which I believe is owned by eBay since it does seem to be secure.

Fees are high for sure. eBay used to own PayPal but spun it off about 10 years ago.

All of above plus holding half my money from a sell till I show sales matching it or 21 days. Once I get money from last sell paypal is closed. Rather throw it in shelf then get backdoored.

USPS money order is safe. Hell who wants federal charge of mail fraud for few hundered bucks?

I miss the old trading post. Yea old fashioned paper stuff. Only locals and no freakking shipping(also high and hard to get exact cost of) and hand to hand cash. Yes I am old ****.

Go do the "old fashioned stuff", I'd rather pay a fee and not deal with people. A couple of sales on FB Marketplace and you'll be thrilled with ebay and paypal.

I've only bought off Ebay twice.
Once to use up a gift card I received, (had to create a PayPal account).
The other item, I contacted the seller, drove there, and paid cash.

I think I listed some antique stuff once, but never got any offers?

I have and do still occasionally buy off of EBay. Lots of discontinued cutting inserts I buy for the shop at half or less price.

If you have evedr sold item and buyer complained you would seehow ebay sides with buyer every time. One example I sold a man two cranks from Hemi engine both 4.5". Stated unknown condition. Man wanted trefund on one because cracked. I sold him both for 500 bucks. These cranks cost 3000 each new in 1990. I did tell him they stated unknown and if one was good agt 500 bucks he was good . Ebay said I had to refund money. Bad move the words you have to are always wrong approach.

Guess he got lost on way down tonwhip my butt.he had adress. Ebay was not happy IO had closzed bank account before calling them.

One of 3 events. Always buyer is right no matter.

wife sold costume jewelry on ebay for a few years. Did about a 1/4 mil in sales, so she did well with it.

Problem is, it was lots. A small flat rate box with select styles and colors and such. Buyers would get the box in, take what they wanted and file a claim. I helped her put together a packing list and, more than a few times the package would be returned and the packing list did not match what was in the box. She had good records of the stuff she sent to each buyer. We would dispute the claim but it did not matter, even with proof. Automatic refund as soon as a tracking number was provided. It was costing more to do business than she was making and this was all because of their favoritism of the buyer.

I've been a seller too and did a LOT of sales of powersports items (all used). Did not matter what the description said. I have sold BROKEN parts, and listed it as broken, for parts only, no returns. Did not matter. "Didn't like it", sent it back, automatic refund. I spoke with an actual ebay (and paypal) rep about this and it was explained that, guess what, it doesnt matter-it's favoritism of the buyer is good for customer service.

As a buyer, about everything I've purchased has been VERY slow to ship. I've even purchased an item which shipped from 5 miles away, took 8 days to show up. Once a tracking number is provided, it is considered shipped. Tracking number is generated as soon as you start the shipping process, and is easy to set up. It can sit at the house for a month and as long as it's got a tracking number, it's considered shipped.

People have abused the system. The scammers have abused it. The chinese have abused it. Ebay's done a terrible job of monitoring that stuff.

Scamazon used to be a little better but they've kind of gone 'that' way now too. It's impossible to find good quality USA-made stuff on amazon. Prime used to be great, 2 day shipping on almost everything I've ever ordered. Not anymore, if I get it in a week that's considered good. I've actually cancelled prime and started using other direct websites, such as but not limited to, actual dealers that have an online store, not a marketplace.

I guess I had better consider myself very fortunate, after reading some of yall's war stories, in the fact that I have/still do buy and sell on ebay and never once had an issue either way. I just sell smaller stuff that i can send UPS, the bigger stuff I use FB marketplace for local pickup only. Freight is getting so ridiculous it is not cost effective anymore. I have taken non-refundable deposits on some sales and still never had an issue. I have sold trailers, toads, engines, transmissions, rear ends, etc. Now that I have liquidated most of my racing stuff, I better quit while I'm ahead LOL

I cancelled PayPal after a buyer said they never received the part I sold them, I had proof it was delivered. PayPal did not care and gave them a credit for the parts. I immediately cancelled PayPal and never looked back. I still sell racing parts on the Facebook racing sites from time to time, I accept Zelle or Venmo which are non refundable cash apps, if buyer don't like it, tough they can find someone else to buy from.

I have been selling & buying on Ebay and using Paypal for 25 years with minimum issues.

No doubt fees and rules are getting worse. Likewise, "the buyer is always right" policy.

But, like Eman says ya deal with a few goof-balls on Facebook Marketplace and Ebay looks ok.

If you sell used stuff on ebay it all works great if you take a lot of pictures, give dimensions and give an honest description. That removes a lot of questions and you don't have any problems with claims. Also put in ad you don't accept returns. I've sold used stuff that has shipped all over the world. Ebay offers an international shipping service that has worked out great.

I sold a lot of cars and parts on ebay in the late 90's early 2000's...Wont bother anymore. FB marketplace is full of scammer both buying and selling. I miss the good ole fashioned swap meet honestly. Now a days if you do that at an organized event you have to fill out a tax for that..Its gotten ridiculous..Like I am making money selling used race parts from my stuff.
