For those of you that have done both, which do you prefer and why? Index racing includes the 10.90, 9.90 and 8.90 stuff. 272" Spitzer 540 Chevy The Blower Shop XR1 FTI XPM Series Converter FTI Level 6 Powerglide 3.69@199 .916 60' 2017 Bradenton Heads Up Madness Open Outlaw Champ 2018 PDRA T/D #5 2019 PDRA T/D #2 2020 Retired From T/D Competition.... 2020 Bradenton NMCA Hemi Shootout Winner 2021 getting back into bracket racing with a Gen3 Hemi powered 87 Cutlass.

Good thread Bender, I like Index racing a lot, Its a real challenge to figure out how to get the throttle stop working with all the changes in a day of racing. Even with a slow moving 127 MPH S/ST car. But don't get me wrong running a dial in race is a great time to , whether to hold or dial hard. Its great time running against 7 second car with a 50 or more MPH . My best days are when I can run both classes on the same day, that's when I'm at my best. If I have to chose I think Index would be my choice if there is the same number of cars in each class. HAVE THEY CALLED US YET ? THEY HAVE!!!

I prefer Index Racing, but not the Super Classes. I prefer 10.00 and 11.50, no throttle stops, no delay boxes, True 500 Pro Tree. Both leave together and stay that way for the entire pass..... If you miss the tree you know right away, if they miss the tree, again, you know right away. No high mpg charges here! But the delay box and throttle stop manufactures don't want to see this type of racing for obvious reasons!

Index is my preference. 6.0 is what I have done but wouldn't like doing the super classes. I like the no electric stop variety. Curtis ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

I hear ya! I have done that many times. Footbrake off the bottom bulb DEEP, trans brake off a 500 Pro Tree, and play with the peeps in Super Pro but leaving off the bottom bulb on the trans brake! Changing the dial between deep and shallow, making sure you remember what class and tree you are running, it is a blast! No delay box or throttle stop in my car so never had to remove anything!

This /\ I run both brackets and a 5.00 index class. I prefer the index class because of the challenge. It is a .400 tree and no electronics so it can be a real challenge to run that index in changing weather. I still bracket race and it is definitely tough racing to but the index is more fun to me. If it comes down to it both are racing and would rather be racing than Golfing or some other sport. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. Dial-in. Just because index is almost always on a Pro Tree. Take care. Tom Worthington If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Just add a jr to your day and it's a wirlwind! Super fun though. I always say when we have those days that we are hitting on all eight. You gotta have your stuff together and you gotta keep your cool when something doesn't go quite right. No time for stewing. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

I've been running brackets for a long time, but over the last couple years I've really come to enjoy the Super classes. A different challenge. Divisional events may be my favorite now. They are financially stupid, but life is busy enough that I don't mind making a few passes and also having time to take a nap in a chair or have a steak and a beer in the evening. I do bring two cars so I don't get too bored. Tony Leonard

They have around here now what they are calling open comp. You get 2 time trials and your quickest pass is what your dial in becomes the rest of the race. It is also ran on a pro tree but a handicap start. Just something a little different but it does draw a good crowd.

I have to agree with others about running index and bracket on the same day. It's a blast! Local tracks don't have many opportunities but when they do I'm all in! I've run some index: 7.00, 6.40, 11.00, and 10.00 (NSS format). All no-throttle-stop, no-box variety. It breaks up the routine of bracket racing. I just wish we had more opportunity to run index or even the NSS format. Frankly, index racing could get boring if that's all there was. Usually the car count is a lot smaller and the same folks just race against each other all the time. That's where NSS format could help. Open comp is fun also and has the added benefit of a larger class turnout. The only local open comp racing is NMCA once per year and it's really not feasible to pay all the fees unless one plans to follow the series. Matt Ward

I have to say that both ways are good, but then again I do bracket race using my throttle stop like I do in Super Comp. I like to Brakcet race because I am usually faster, but Super Comp is where I have always wanted to race. I have to agree with Tony on Divisional racing lately, but it is not fair to compare many races with Earlville!

No timed T-stop Pro tree Index racing is booming in North Texas, fixed stops only allowed. The 7.00 class is extremely popular. They run the 7.0, 6.0, 5.50 and 5.0 classes with the Outlaw Promod shows and they pay dam good and people are having fun again, way more than the only local bracket program we currently have.

The index stuff around here has been popular since the ORSCA days....that was fun, real racing. 3000lbs 10.5 tire max, no stops, and .400 pro tree on a 7.0 and 6.0 index. None of our stuff is on a .500 tree and it shouldn't be. My wagon weighed 3000lbs would run 7.70s and I could be .015-.020 on a .400 tree. Now it's more run whatcha brung but still no stops allowed. In 7.0 you better be .020 or better or leave your ramps and straps out cause it will be an early day.

I also enjoy index racing. wish there was some more of it closer to home. with IHRA gone there is not any around. just NHRA....I am considering running the NHRA 1/8 mile series.

I like racing both. I think I am a better 8.90 racer than I a bracket racer. I want to start traveling to more divisionals. I want the challenge of racing different racers. I would love to go money racing, but can't afford to drop $1000 in entry fees.

We had some 5.90's on a .400 tree racing a few years ago and it was really good and fun, but it ha died out due to a number of reason. 5.90 racing we had didn't allow throttle stops. I had a blast.. "Just Shut Up and Race" Brian Martin Martin Racing 5.50 126

Index, be it .90 or open comp racing love the pro tree, just seems better than leaving off the top bulb for some reason. Around here Open Comp is a cut-throat class but you learn to drive the stripe.
