I won't get into right or wrong....but I hate the controversy that it creates for the promotor(s). Heard this racer went to the tower and was told that nothing malfunctioned so a re-run wasn't warranted, then he packed up and left the event. Like I said, not getting into who's right or wrong but this racer I'd be willing to bet won't return next year and also won't be trying to convince his racing buddies to attend either.

If that's the case, he made the error then took his ball and went home. All he had to do was fully stage his car. He had a ton of time to stage. Has nothing to do with the promoter as they can't give him a rerun when he refused to stage...

there was absolutely zero grounds for a re-run

Racers can demand all kinds of unreasonable things. Do the promoters have to cater to all of those demands in order to make everyone happy?
Look, I didn't know this would work this way. But I don't play games at the starting line either. If you are going to swing that way, you had better know the in's and out's of it and the risks as well. He figured he had a fail proof system that he felt gave him a bit of advantage staging last. He missed a detail. Now he knows. And so do the rest of us.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes....if you are going to play the staging game you better know all the angles. Don't act like a b!tch when someone can play it better than you. Plain and simple!

If I bring the rpm up higher than 1500-1600 while bumping in, when I set the brake, the car will rock. Am I illegally staged too?

The big difference is when your car rocks the stage light stays on. He staged the first time with a move forward then intentionally turned the stage light off by turning the wheel. He then did not move forward to stage. He turned the wheel to turn the stage back on. He purposely and knowingly used the flaw of the timing system to eliminate his opponent and not have a fair drag race with a clearly illegal manipulation of the stage light.

I agree the other guy may have gotten what he deserved but why is he required to stage first. If I was the official or promoter the racer with the illegal stage technique would have been tossed and the other slow stager would have been warned that if he jerked around again, he would be tossed also. But the promoters probably thought it was better to leave Johnny bracket racer in.

So by your logic a car that actually backs up as the last motion (rocking back but staying staged) is ok. But a car thats last motion was not backwards should be tossed? Nobody is required to stage first but it's not anybody's right to stage last either and it bit him in the a$$.

Beating Dead Horse Come on both cars pre staged for 21 seconds then Johnny does his first blinking of the stage. Johnny did not do anything but use the rules the way they are written. So take your car home and tell all your friends......Then maybe learn the rules...You have to stage to race is the first rule....

You know.....all of this would have been avoided had the starter been managing the starting line all day. Why tolerate these time wasting antics? Afraid of confrontation?

Best thing about this happening is that a lot more racers know about this rule, may help someone else down the road.... I myself saw this happen at a national JRS. race in 2007.
