Funny. When I saw the title, I thought it was gonna be about those drivers who want to intentionally drive into your lane. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

Rocky is a smart guy who understands the strategy and importance in the execution of holding. Successful Bracket racing in not simple, it doesn't strictly rely on luck, (yes there is some) but rather on strategy and execution.

Great article.

It's probably 30+ years ago when I first thought of exactly what he is saying about how to describe making runs and visualizing it as he did

Your total time vs a perfect run.....and if you are under or over

It's just math and of course the ability to let go of a button with machine like consistency.

^^^^^This^^^^^ is mostly what I'm all about when I race now & the past 10 years.

Here's my opinion on Bob's paragraph & what works for me. I will also add in one other item.

When I look back & evaluate my racing. Luck has always played a factor on doing well or winning a race(s). Usually at least 1 round for the majority of the time. I also believe sometimes you can make your own luck.

Strategy & execution before/during a round is my most enjoyable aspect of my racing over winning/money.

Now, something I don't hear much talk or no talk about. Observing your opponent(s) especially in the staging lanes, but other areas also. I relate it to professional poker/card players reading/observing/evaluating/studying/etc. their opponents.

I believe you have to be confident in your ability and plan. Preparation of your car and knowing what it does in the weather conditions. I also think there is some luck involved so I do not get too confident and think I am the greatest. I know that luck can go both ways but when you work hard and learn you can improve your odds. Nobody is unbeatable.
And yes it does help to know what your opponent does and how they race.

My opinion on Luck, you win from experience and practice but most every big race or even Championship I have won there has been a round where I have to say I got lucky on it. Sure I may have earned 9 out of 10 rounds but there is always a round where you were there for the taking and squeaked by. Sometimes it goes the other way but you try to learn and do better next time.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.
