While researching some engine theory and ideas. Mainly rings. I ran across 10 libraries full of information. Not saying all agree. Some are backed up with dyno proof. Then some almost impossible to do a perfect situation comparison. Like dyke rings versus ported ring. You have to swap pistons. Getting exact same piston with nothing changed except ring land. Not impossible but damn close.

Got me wondering. With all the information we have available today with the internet, Do we have too much?

I know old guys will remember this. Use to be you talked to maybe half a dozen people read few articles and maybe a book or two like Reher Morrison's book on engines. You decide which way makes the most sense to you and did it. Now that is a choice of 1000 vs dozen.

Problem is, well for me at least. With the cost of stuff who the hell wants to buy 4 different pieces for one job. Just to find the one that works best. Yea I know go the cookie cutter routes. Never been and never will be me.

Now I am firm believer in learning all you can . Wade through BS and use others, But how much can you wade through before falling into hole.

Once again I say call Total Seal or even any of the big name piston manufacturers and talk to them. Let them know you want the most cost effective package for power and durability.

As for too much information we are learning stuff all the time and things like we all run vacuum pumps now may change what ring package works best.

Even on street cars in the 60's if your motor lasted 100,000 miles it was rare. We had to change oil, sparkplugs, points and plug wires every 3,000 miles. Now they go 100,000 before you have to change spark plugs and they make more power and get better mileage.

Our race motors are making more power and lasting longer to. Some things are getting better.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

I already have info from Total Seal. Not the end all of all things rings. Total seal is a company and going to try to sell you what they have or make that best fits your needs. Always other options to look at. No matter how good the piece fits there is always room for better combonation.
Plus I enjoy learning every aspect of a angine and principal or theory I can.

Pistons and rings just one thing I am researching right now. Will have new sheet metal intake sitting here ready to run come the first of the year. When I change will depend on mood I get in. Looking into runner length and tapper design at the moment . Got to do something this winter in the evenings, can't spend whole winter cleaning deer, but going to give it a shot.LOL

I've been watching the Fling results from National Trails in Ohio for the past couple of days and can't believe the numbers. Go .004 coupled with a dead on 6 with a 10 pack and what......go home????

Not like it's one or two folks doing this but round after round seeing a bunch of cars repeat these packages. Geeesh, it's enough to make a guy reconsider ever pulling into the mud h0le again.

I have to believe that the technology, (or whatever it is), can produce numbers like this again and again. If you had anything less than a 15 pack, or better, you were headed to the buy back window with a fresh wad of cash. I must live in a protected world, I may have had one or two sub 10 packs in my entire life. What the he!! am I missing?

Maybe it's time or me to consider buying a boat or taking up golf, yukkk!

Probably missing the thousands of runs some of the guys make a year. A little stretch, but probably not much.

The part that amazes me is some can do it in 3 different cars on a weekend.

Yea watching some it too. Two tv's and laptop going unless out in the trailer working on the car. Not enough working.LOL
