Bigdrive88Strange Issue
OK so it has been quite a few years since I posted on here, but I want to describe the problem I have been having now about 3 weekends at the racetrack with my car. So, before I even get into it, I want to make one thing clear, the car from the starting line to the finish line has no problems runs 4.40’s, runs consistent no issues from A to B the issues I'm having are after the run back to the pit area. So, few weeks ago After about three or four runs coming up the return Rd. I noticed my engine idle starting to creep up a little bit after every run and I also noticed my water temp starting to creep up more than normal in conjunction with that. Now keep in mind I haven't touched the idle on this car in over three years it's been run in multiple tracks and all different kinds of weather the idle never really changes if it does it's so minute I never notice it but now we're talking about 600 RPM change in idle and instead of my car maintaining water temp coming up the return Rd. It's just clicking it off 1 after another, and we'll pick up 30 plus degrees from the return road to the pit area. Once the car cools back down it'll start up and idle perfectly you go up and make another run it just repeats that process coming back to the pits. So I come back the next week the whole scenario is exactly the same after two or three runs the car starts acting up again in the same way does it matter if I run it back on alcohol or if I run it back on the primer it's pretty much the same thing. So, after the second week of this happening, I took the Top of the Motor off remove the intake I looked over everything. We checked valve springs I ran the valves looked over the intake everywhere to see if there was any kind of visible crack intake gaskets were not blown out I replaced all the gaskets from the intake all the way up resealed everything I took the throttle body disassembled it put it all back together after cleaning everything and soaking it cleaned out the barrel valve and we put it all back together. I started it up and heat Cycled it four different times and it idled perfectly every time. So Fast forward to this weekend I ran the car Saturday after second round before I got to the end of the track the car just basically shut off when I tried to start it back up it would just start up immediately Rev up and shut off like it was out of fuel so I ended up starting it on the primer driving it back to the pits I don't find no problems got back to the pit area tried to start it on alcohol just repeated the process it would start up Rev up real quick and then shut down the car would not run an idol on alcohol at all at that point. I could start it up on gas and they would sit there and idle. The water temp at that time was about 177° when I got back to the pit area so drove around talked to a few people came back water temp was around 152 the car started up and idled on alcohol and sat there like everything was normal. As soon as this thing gets heat soaked Is when it starts acting up. So basically, the car this weekend after three runs would not start up and run on alcohol until it cooled back down so I basically put her on the trailer. Today I did a compression test and a leak down. I also smoked the intake to make sure nothing is coming out anywhere around the manifold the blower the blower top injector plate all that didn't see anything. We removed the feed line from the barrel valve started to carve up on gas and noted that fuel looks like it's coming out of a water faucet it's just pouring out so the pump is actually pumping fuel I'm not saying that there's still not a fuel delivery problem but all I can tell you is the fuel pump is pumping fuel pressure going down the track with the current tune up is around 96 PSI idle pressure is about 10PSI. So, the compression test with the motor at Operating temperature ranged from 195 to 205 and the leak down was 10% on all the cylinders except #4 which was 12%. This is a 582 with the 250 blower and Ron’s injection. MSD grid ignition. I don't know if these barrel valves go bad this Ron system is probably eight years old. The pump was new in 2023 when I had it apart a few weeks ago cleaned out all the lines made sure there's no obstructions fuel filters clean there's just no signs of anything, but when this thing gets hot that's when this problem starts this whole thing revolves around the temperature. I really don't know where to go from here, so I'm Hoping to get some insight from anybody here. The only thing I can think about doing next is taking the blower off putting my old intake back on the car with the injection and running it without the blower to see if it will run all day and not have this problem. My only issue there is I don't have a set of Dragster headers I just have my zoomies. The engine has 290 runs on it which includes the blower rocker arms has 127, Valve springs and lifters have 72 runs.

AlaskaracerOk, that was a hard read. If I'm understanding correctly, you start the engine, the idle goes up and temp creeps up. Something like that?? If that's correct, it sounds like it's bypassing fuel and going lean. That's what will bring the idle up and temp with it. You said you rebuilt the barrel valve? Did you mark the valve and install it EXACTLY where it was before? Was the teflon sealing ring on the spool still in place? Did you check the poppet valve on the main return? This is where I'd start. It's not normal for it to do that and if it is, something is causing it to lean out.
