Can't speak to Palmer's situation, but on Tuesday, Diehl posted on his facebook page that they wouldn't be there. New car isn't ready and with Torrence not going, they wouldn't have some of the support equipment (and people) they need.

/Diehl actually announced Torrence's absence before Torrence did

Quote from Scott.

"Not sure if everyone realizes how much the Capco team and Torrence family helps smaller teams out there . The Torrence family and Team personally wired and plumbed our new car, and worked with Rick Ducusin ,Will , Alex, Eddie and Warwick to finish and test this new car for us . Here at SPR and also JDR we don’t feel comfortable going to Pomona running without them there for advise and support, so we will start the season here in Phoenix in a few weeks . ...And testing went great!"

They should go back to a full season points chase like it used to be and all of a sudden every race matters again Cool

Good luck with that. That would be an admission of bad decision making and no body like admitting they were wrong.

Until the fine is paid they cannot race. Why they didn't deduct that amount from their winning check baffles me.

I’m sure at the first event, but will they return or feel like they get their money’s worth if their favorite team wasn’t in attendance?

I'll be honest, I lost interest in TF/FC when they went to a 1000'. Now the ET numbers don't correlate to any other classes. I understand a lot of the fans just like the noise and such, but I think they should return to 1/4 and make it more appealing by rule changes, IE: Single Mag, fuel pump restriction, OD, etc.

I bet paying the fine is NOT an issue. Possibly they figured out winning the championship has no reward/ROI for sponsors and in comparison to they money spent?

Just a thought based on a non profit organization actions for payouts and rules to win a championship?

Just thinking outloud a bit...

Every year fuel racing becomes more expensive coupled with a far lower ROI for sponsors. It doesn't require an accountant to figure out where this is headed. Unless the folks that run the NHRA take the bull by the horns and stop this run-away money train Fuel Racing will eventually become a long gone thing of the past. Fewer fuel cars at each race, increased spectator fees, fewer sponsors and less interest, what would you expect? I mean, how many times can you watch a fuel car make a pass and still be excited?

Bob, you are correct about today's NHRA fuel program where getting 16 cars to the track is a major accomplishment.

In the past those 32 and 64 car Funnycar shootouts were pretty darn exciting. These days I think you would be hard pressed to find 32 operational fuel funny cars let alone 64 of them.

Yea same with T/A class'. Use to be a minor millionaire could run fuel and a guy making nice 6 figure income could run T/A.Now days its a billionaire can run fuel and a millionaire can run T/A.
25 years ago you could run strong on a million dollar budget and now days you can't hardly a fuel car to track for that.

One side benefit: Small and startup teams with more moderate budgets can make the field now.

I am glad to see that Brandon Welch (La Mesa, Ca.) made the TF field. Small budget team, great guy, great Family. Hoping that he finds the money to make it to more events. Here is a guy with real determination and grit.

TF/FC is pricing themselves right out of business and the NHRA is greasing the skid. Without some type of realistic restrictions these competitors will be in the same boat as F1 and Indy Car. Just my.02.
