NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car going injected?
NHRA has sent a survey to current TAFC teams to gauge interest/opposition in allowing injected nitro cars into the class. Thought being, they might be able to bring a few more entries. Not something that's going to happen soon (if at all), but they are at least talking about it.

Always wondered why injected nitro was ok in the TAD class but not in TAFC....

Why not? they found a parity on the dragster side, both have pro's and con's fuel wise I believe.

Fire under glass is what I had heard when they first started it in dragsters.

Thats what I remember, most NHRA divisional tracks don't have the fire equipment to deal with a nitro funny car fire

Buddy of mine Scott Wiess tried it back in mid 90's in IHRA. Smart family that went on to run some TF. They got it to work so so ,but never really got a handle on it. He said get enough load with short wheelbase to lug the motor as is needed with nitro. They did finally figure it out and get the car to haul, but then IHRA being IHRA outlawed the combo for the next season.

Would love to some of the upper class TA/D guys try it in TA/FC.

I have always wanted to see this happen! I do believe either Dale Armstrong or Ken Veney, maybe both ran an injected combo back in the 70`s in Pro Comp.

An a fuel car is heavily affected by load and the consistency of the load. The more load, the more they can burn. A tafc inherently doesn't lend itself as well to these conditions. Compare pedaled runs from tad to tafc and that's where it's gonna be tough. The convertor has revolutionized the class recently but has limitations at lock affecting the top end. Having past clutch experience in tafc I can tell you my hands were alot dirtier than the lencodrive guys. Also note that a leave off idle naturally aspirated nitro combo is a quite a bit harder to cut a light. Especially when the guy in the other lane is at 6000 holding a button down. My two cents.....

Can someone explain why Nitro combos work in TAD but wouldn't in TA/FC? Just wondering.

Clutch dust is bytch to get off hands or out of clothes. I believe god made black jeans just for the clutch guy/LOL

Pretty much duplicates my reply about load. Same reason my FED would need a clutch instead of converter is running big load in tank. Bad thing is I sold all the stuff I need for it to be A/Fuel, titanium glide clutch and titanium bell housing and lenco trans.

Maybe a funny with motor set back lot more might be good start. Then keeping front end on ground would be issue always one thing fixed and one more to fix.LOL

If anyone is ready to jump into build give me a call would love to be part of deal. Limited tuning on A/Fuel but do have some and lots of TA/FC experience just with blower. Would be fun especially on your dollar.
