Jason Miller from Maryland International Raceway posted earlier that he was notified that PJ1 traction compound was going to be hit with a 50% price increase. From $1000 a drum to $1500 a drum.
Now I know most bracket events don’t over due it with the use of traction compound but this does make me question how this will affect tracks across the country for the season.
It’s no wonder we’re seeing more and more No Prep style events as it’s a win win for the track. Less expense in traction compound and less work for track employees, not to mention the increase in income from spectators.
Sure would like to see things with racing get back to “normal”, but hell, what is normal anymore?
I guess we’ll be lucky if no more tracks close.

You would be surprised how much some of our local tracks use

Everything in this world has gone up, tracks just need to raise the cost of every tech card $10, that should easily cover the cost. Drag racing is an expensive hobby, $10 ain't shyt

Totally agree with this. I can't wait to see all the crying when they do locally here. Every thread that ever starts about what the track can do to make things better ends up with people saying, "free spectator entry and $10 tech cards". LOL I don't know why dragstrips are supposed to be the only businesses that don't make money?
There are going to be lots of test and tunes that aren't prepped or only have one lane prepped.

I think Jeffers has started manufacturing his own traction compound.
Wonder what the cost of it will be VS PJ1 and VP

Was there a problem before NASCAR started spraying their tracks each week. It's incredible how much traction compound they use now.

If more racers learned how to manage getting down a track this would be less of a problem and multiple drums of PJ-1 would be less necessary.
I mean how many electronic traction devices do you need, and you still can't get from "A" to "B" without visiting "C" (the guardrail)?
Get a grip, no pun intended.

The closest (still in operation) track to me has never gone back to prepping their surface, since "the shortage" began. It is all no prep now. They are still running both no prep grudge/heads up and no prep bracket racing. It can be a bit more challenging, but I still go, and enjoy myself. Take care. Tom Worthington
If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

That's never really concerned me. I just pay the entry fee and go play. I've also learned how to get down marginal tracks and race at one, so it's not a big deal.....just can't put the car on kill all the time....

As I said before, set it up to work on the worst track you can find and it will always work. No matter the prep.

I'm willing to pay more, but in my opinion our track uses too much glue. What are the options: shorten the distance raced, less prep or no prep; I don't really care, I'll race or have raced everything above! What I found the most interesting was bracket racing 300'.
2BKING will bracket race!

Agreed!!! If you’re having problems just hold 5 if you need it. Many use this method even when they don’t need it.

Any promoters doing NO PREP bracket racing? This could be interesting. Not saying I'm interested in competing, but it might be fun to watch.

My small block Chevy light car Big tire deal can get down any track. So the last thing I have to worry about his track prep.

Not directed at any one person(s). What's keyboarded, isn't always what happens at the track. I'll bet a good many would be complaining when things don't go as planned.

Exactly.
While some say that their car will hook in a car wash, they then get pissed when it spins on the track.
