Bracket Talk
What Should the Consequences Have Been?

cgallWhat Should the Consequences Have Been?
Saturday night at Edgewater a guy wins first round in Super Pro in his Dad's dragster, then runs his 16-second Cobalt in Sportsman. He hits the brakes so hard the car goes into a spin, goes across the track and hits the wall. Fortunately his opponent had a faster car and was well past him. The Cobalt is taken away on a rollback, and the driver goes back to the dragster to run round 2, where he lost. Do you think this driver should have been DQ in S/P, or kicked out of the track, or worse?

DragRaceResultsThat's a tough call!

green1Out of the track in my opinion. If you can’t drive a 16 second car I sure as heck don’t want you in a dragster beside me.

TomRAre we ruling out mechanical failure on the Cobalt? It should have had ABS and he should not have been able to lock up the brakes on it. Maybe he got into some fluids at he finish line?

ts393cI seen he posted on Facebook that he yanked the emergency brake trying to kill 2 tenths and wasn't wearing a seat belt either. He did apologize for what he done and admitted to making a mistake.

Well if this is what he did I would also ban him for a while. That is totally idiotic move.

NC3x58First... Not enough info here to really give an opinion I feel like
Second... At the end of the day, it's ultimately up to the track and/or promoter. The track is the only one who can make a call as such, and if it's something you don't like it's pretty simple, don't go back..

442OLDSMy first thought after reading is that it sounds like you want to penalize the guy for racing 2 cars.
However,it definitely might be justified in that situation.

How old is this driver ??? Yanked the e-brake trying to kill 2 tenths
Guy shouldn't be driving a race car

SlyFoxI'm going to guess that a stock Cobalt runs in the neighborhood of 70mph in the 1/8 mile, 90mph or so in the 1/4 mile. If I'm a track owner, anybody stupid enough to yank the emergency brake handle at those speeds, and/or inexperienced enough to lose control of a car going that slow in a straight line, would be escorted off my property and instructed never to return.

CURTIS REEDWait isn't he supposed to remove the handle from his hand brake???
Sorry I couldn't resist. It was a really dumb move on his part.

SS427IMPHe didn't hurt anybody's junk but his own. Leave him be, bet he doesn't pull that stunt again.

Tom396He didn't run into
me , so I really don't have a dog in the fight. If he had run into me, I'd have made sure he was injured in the "accident". I put accident in quotes because if he lost control due to excessive braking, it isn't an accident at all. It's willful negligence. Take care. Tom Worthington
If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

So under this theory somebody can walk into a big crowd and unload an assault rifle by firing it off and if nobody’s junk gets hurt then let him be.
I only have one life to live and don’t want it ended by some idiot like this and also don’t want my car smashed up because of it.
If that was my son I guarantee he wouldn’t be racing for a while no matter what the track said.

The last time I stomped on a parking brake trying to look "cool" was with a 2nd Gen Firebird I had. I had been pulling "Rockford Files" moves for about a 1/2 hour, last one got away and slid off the road into a curb that we didn't see under a lot of dirt. Ripped the lower control arm right off the frame...... Lesson learned....
But I have never, ever done anything stupid like that at the track!

EmanI guess the track let him keep racing and will continue to. So the question really becomes do you want to race at that track?
